Media needs to stop with "critics say" and just quote the actual language of the bill.
HB 249 creates a new category of "seminudity" which can be used to arrest women who aren't nude, but are wearing clothing āĀ leggings, t-shirts without bras ā that religious groups feel is too provocative.

They think you're stupid.
He added 27 more blocks in the past hour. Only 2 of 36 direct blocks were not from today. Iām currently on my phone, so hovering doesnāt work well. But the accounts I could hover were literally all trans people.
if there is a path to either national nonpartisan redistricting or proportional representation, it is going to go through one party or another. but the first step toward it actually happening is for that party to win power, and you go to war with the system you have, not the one you want.
one of the ways the mid to late 20th century political world has distorted the historical memories of even sophisticated observers is in the idea that you can achieve major transformations of american political life through something like bipartisan consensus
I would submit that a gerrymander by politicians saying fuck the voters and one by voters saying fuck the politicians are two wholly different animals
flipping through a proof of yet another book from a somewhat well known liberal voice diagnosing āwhere the left went wrongā and iām struck, again, by the fact that a large part (if not most) of the liberal commentariat simply does not believe that the political right has agency.
The Justice Deptās theory of the caseā that the group that single-handedly disassembled the Ku Klux Klan defrauded its donors by concealing that it was using paid informant to do that work and moreā has about as much merit as the now-dismissed charges against Jim Comey.
Tweet by Martina Navratilova. "Predator. That is how he should register. A sexual predatorā¦" quote-tweeting a tweet by "Biology Rules OK" about Dr. Beth Upton, a trans woman
This tweet is highly defamatory and Martina Navratilova should be fired from BBC Sport for it.
It demonstrates an horrendous level of hatred for a trans woman (who was cleared of all wrongdoing in a recent tribunal) because she is a trans woman.
You know the 118th Congress started in 2023. And you know the CDC is an executive branch agency. When Bidenās CDC declared the pandemic over in 2022 that was not the Republicans by any stretch. Being distracted is not an excuse for deadly policies. You see how that makes it worse, right?
And then, under pressure from businesses, declared the pandemic over and let programs lapse even while thousands of Americans were still dying every week. Think 2022 onwards rather than 2021, the majority of his term.
They use āDemocratā as a noun, in that case as a plural noun. When used as an adjective, the standard for the party (and English grammar, generally) is āDemocraticā. Using āDemocratā as an adjective is the epithet.
Also, itās a nit-pick, but the only people who say āDemocratā the way you do are Republicans. Itās a deliberate in-group signal for them. Someone who supposedly cares about the party would know this and spend the extra 2 characters to say āDemocratic candidateā. But you didnāt.
Politicians should believe in their own platform. If the partyās main response to getting criticism from the opposition is to fold & implement the oppositionās agenda, how can they possibly expect that to help them? Politics are oppositional. Sometimes you gotta stand with your own side.
They need a better answer, we both agree there. That GOP fever dream bill is absolutely not it. The Democrats wonāt win over racists by passing that racist bill. Theyāll just debase themselves and still lose. That bill is just a Bush-era wishlist. Passing it would be a massive coup for the GOP.
Like... no. Their job, if they win in November, is to spend the next two years making Donald Trump's life a living hell and prevent him from making things worse for the rest of the time he's in office. They are there to gum up the works.
Bidenās 2020 campaign knew they needed left-wing voters so they included left-wing policies. Once they won they half-assed implementation, often dropping policies quietly, and then didnāt bother in 2024. We know what it looks like when they listen, which is why it was so clear they werenāt in 2024.
A citizenās main power is their vote. Just voting for the lesser of two evils every time because the party says so is literally the powerless situation here. Youāve got it backwards. This is a democracy. Politicians need to convince the power base (people) why they deserve to share that power.
I mean, Iād appreciate if we had a center-left party instead of the two party system, far-right & center-right, we have today. Whether the Democrats actually moderate & drop their center-right alignment or we get a new party is less of my concern, tho. To some Dems, that makes me āanti-partyā
Laughing at the idea that the "first order of business if Dems win House/Senate" should be to re-introduce the right-wing immigration bill Biden/Harris tried to run on in 2024 to take the immigration issue off the table by making a ton of concessions to the anti-immigration right.
Our latest paper is out today in @jamapediatrics.com - discussing:
(1) How structural and mental health disparities can lead to competitive *disadvantages* for trans youth in sports
(2) The negative impacts of exclusionary sports policies on mental health

I've been thinking about the backlash Marie Kondo got and I think part of it was not just that she was saying "buy less shit" she was explicitly say "only buy what actually makes you happy" and in a nation of conspicuous consumption it pissed people off.
palantir should be viewed as the enemy of modern society
A flatscreen display on a "smart" water fountain, demanding to be reconnected to the internet.
In 1999, I was playing a decker in Shadowrun, and tried to distract a guard by hacking a water fountain to overflow, and my GM said "why would a water fountain be on the network? That's fucking stupid. No you can't try."
Well it's 2026 and I just want you to know, Phil, that I FUCKING CALLED IT!
i was just saying to a friend a few days ago that trump's public opinion collapse opens up the field of possibilities in ways that are truly unpredictable. it is one thing for a president to be this popular at the *end* of their turn, but not even two years in?
one of the most insane aspects of all of this is that "a wide ranging government crackddown after a handful of newspaper cranks said insane things based on misunderstood cherrypicked papers" is considered illegitimate in every field of endeavor except this one
Forget about the substance, the reveal that āmost ofā the justices talked to Mollie Hemingway for her book is bananas. Hemingway is a right-wing freak who runs a conspiracy theory blog. If literally any of the justices are taking this person seriously, the Supreme Court is GONE gone.
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
There are no easy answers here. LGBT+ activism in the UK is in a very tricky place. From a strategic perspective I do think itās worth thinking about how best to persuade, maybe trying something new. But you have to actually fight for trans people. Or else youāre the LGB Alliance.
I can see the strategy sheās going for with this interview. She wants to detoxify Stonewall, make it seem less ideological, dogmatic etc. Thatās why sheās saying she respects JK Rowling. The problem is that *nothing* will make the gender-criticals warm to Stonewall. It is public enemy #1 to them.
