A policy explainer graphic that features a sad otter with the words on it saying:

Our plan to clean up the Wild West Water Industry

A new regulator with real teeth and real powers.

Higher fines and a ban on bonuses for water bosses.

Turn water companies into public benefit companies.

Hold persistent sewage dumpers criminally responsible.

Whether it is sky-high bills or the destruction of our natural environment, it’s time these failing water companies were held properly to account.

"Prime Minister and many ministers have identified that the benefits system is broken and the cost of it is skyrocketing, but balancing the books on the backs of the poor is wrongheaded in the extreme."

"The proposals today are a leap into the dark."

If the PIP and UC changes are unacceptable (and they definitely are), why is it ok to inflict them on new claimants? How can Labour rebels be happy with inflicting this cruelty on anyone?

Why do UK media outlets- in particular the Times, Mail and Telegraph - let Trump get away with appalling loutish behaviour which they’d condemn in anyone else? Like trying to get a journalist sacked for writing the truth or calling them scum or dropping the F-bomb in public

It should not be lost on anyone that Minnesota Rep Melissa Hortman, who was shot to death in her home last night by an assassin, was a gun safety advocate who worked tirelessly to protect her constituents from gun violence.

In GE2019, the Tories got 56% of seats on 44% of the votes. In GE2024, Labour got 63% of seats on 34% of the votes.

We need to change this system so that seats match votes - voters should get the MPs and policies they vote for.

Magnificent, yet passed over, targeted, fined – family carers are the hidden face of the care crisis | John Harris Britain’s army of unpaid support has been excluded from the political conversation. I didn’t expect to find recognition and hope in a book by a party leader, writes Guardian columnist John Harris

Liberal Democrats asked Government ministers today to clarify their commitment to #HongKong and British BNO passport holders .

The freedom of HongKongers must be held up by all parties.

Thank you @salbrinton.bsky.social, speaking to us ahead of this parliamentary question and voicing out to HKers.

They said: “Most people, including some fairly senior ones, had no idea the interim guidance was coming until it was published late on the Friday evening.

“They woke up to texts from family members and friends saying: ‘What’s going on?’ Staff working on sex and gender issues hadn’t been told, and nor had the duty press staff who were meant to explain it to the media. It was completely shambolic.

“This is, understandably, a fairly inclusive workplace and quite a few staff have trans friends or even partners. They suddenly had to try and explain this guidance which made no sense.

“The pushback has been really strong. Some stakeholders are saying they can no longer work with us. Loads of staff say they’re looking for other jobs. The approach from the chair and senior leadership has been really secretive and paranoid.”

This reads like more evidence that the interim EHRC guidance was drawn up by Kishwer Falkner and cronies, without input from neutral expert staffers.

Standing passengers must move. It is usually possible to fit in a buggy in front of a wheelchair but if not they must move elsewhere/get off. Most of us negotiate with each other - I have offered to get off a stop early in order for a mum with a sleeping newborn to be able to stay on.

All public service bus above 8 seats must have a wheelchair space, which may also be used by buggies. Under law the wheelchair has priority with signs to that effect. Buggies should be folded/slotted in if room). The Bus River Regulations give drivers the power to remove people who don’t comply.

Not sure how confident someone else would have been with his confident assertion that the law had recently changed. Unlucky for him I covered this in the Bus Services No.2 Act in January when it was in the Lords
