Posts by Bogi Takács / SONG OF SPORES out NOW!

It is hard to know, he is one of the people who have gone to the greatest lengths to hide it. (I know of at least one incident that wasn't public either, but some was public)

No, I haven't read that one! (I've been avoiding the author due to his.... backstory and his litigousness to hide it)

There was one which struck me as an adult title marketed as a YA crossover, but I don't remember the title... I DNFed it

I am trying to figure out how to crosspost things all over and/or how to make prescheduled threads nicely, currently poking at Fedica.

I really want to get back to doing the short story recs, but I can only make them at odd hours usually, which is not when people would see them.

Not the OP, but, The Rest of us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness?

in the interest of being part of the solution, a small thread of books that are OUT TODAY that I think look very delightful in one way or another:

If there is one in your area, they often can give locals a library card for a small fee! I used to do that

I am reminded of the software developer on here who said that when the company asked for "AI features," the team just added a sparkle icon to the preexistent features, and the leadership was very satisfied.

Honestly that should have been the way to go here too, but it really wasn't:

Yes, I feel like the whole Classics inspiration he has going on ties into this cultural conservatism too; it is interesting though that he somehow adds the Bible to that, which many of the other white people who get kicks out of the classics generally avoid.

I'd love someone to pull together, if they could, from different author archives (or maybe the letters would be in Judith Merrill's or Kate Wilhelm's collections?), the response letters each author sent to the question. Seeing *how* authors thought about their response would be fascinating.

The Forgotten Fantasies of Thomas Burnett Swann: A Reader’s Introduction Over the course of 2025 and early 2026, I undertook to read all 16 historical fantasy novels by Thomas Burnett Swann, which were published between 1966 and 1977. In those 16 essays, I charted Swann…

Thanks for pointing that out. I haven't checked that list in a long time, but I suppose I'm not really surprised! Despite his generally anti-authoritarian, anti-colonial politics, they always seem a bit detached from real-world scenarios, and his racial politics are BAD. I'll add this to this page:

This is an absolutely wonderful book! One of the best novellas I've read in recent memory. Hoping to post my review shortly :)

Of course, it's possible to write cool gay stuff and be politically not progressive at all, it is just surprising. So I was wondering if there was a story there too (that I know nothing about)

None of the other names on it really surprised me, except his, but I don't actually know much about his political views.

This is a fascinating article! I have been gathering his works for a while now, I came across him while reading short stories from the 1950s-60s.

One other thing I was always wondering about him is that he signed the infamous pro-Vietnam-war statement:

I am again asking people to pay attention to what has happened to our National Science Foundation and by extension thousands of researchers across the country.

The devastation is ongoing and worthy of continued outcry to officials and journalists. 🧪

The Queersar Not An Award 2021 For excellence in queer SFF and SFF with queers released in 2021

I'm assured by writer friends that one good thing you can do to support them is to buy not just new releases but explore their backlists.

Read SF/fantasy? Like queer stuff? I am part way through a project looking at great queer SFF from the 2020s.

2021 is here, and... 1/2

When I moved from Iowa to Kansas and my former primary care had trouble transferring my lab results, a rheumatologist told me I was just depressed and somehow imagined my lab results. (?!)

(I was later diagnosed with an illness the rheumatologist should definitely have known about)

Enjoy!!! I also really like to do this type of stuff by handspinning flowersticks (also known as devilsticks), which are a big more portable / easy to ship.

Flower guy meme: Is this a recession indicator

(I actually think the causation goes the other way round. Issues with the mail can definitely contribute to a recession...)
