Matt Swarmer (2022)

In his first two MLB starts, Swarmer went six innings against both the Brewers and Cardinals allowing just two total earned runs and striking out a combined 11 batters. He got a no-decision in his debut against Milwaukee and earned the win against St. Louis.

Jesse Chavez (2018, 2022)

Chavez was fantastic in his first stint with the Cubs in 2018. After coming over from Texas, he pitched to a 1.15 ERA and held hitters to a .190 average with four saves over 32 games. His second stint was less memorable (6.35 ERA in 5.2 innings).

Drew Smyly (2022-2024)

Who could forget when Smyly flirted with a perfect game on 4/21/23 against the Dodgers? The Cubs won 13-0 but Yan Gomes collided with Smyly while trying to field a David Peralta 8th inning infield single. That would end up as LA’s only hit on the afternoon

Richard Lovelady (2024)

Lovelady appeared in eight games for the 2024 Cubs and pitched to the tune of a 7.94 ERA. He pitched in 10 games for the Mets and Blue Jays last season and is currently with the Washington Nationals.

Brandon Hughes (2022-2023)

Hughes’ career got off to a promising start in 2022 pitching to a 3.12 ERA with a 1.09 WHIP and 10.6 K/9 while holding opponents to a .200 average across 57 games. His next two seasons were far less memorable (7.76 ERA with the Cubs and Arizona.)

Acquired in the Craig Kimbrel deal from the White Sox, Heuer looked like a promising bullpen arm for the Cubs before a series of injuries. He finally made it back to the big leagues in 2025 with Texas and Detroit and is currently in Cleveland’s camp as a NRI.

Christian Bethancourt (2024)

Bethancourt’s best game came against Paul Skenes and the Pirates on August 28, 2024 in a 14-10 win. He went 3-5 with a homer and seven RBI including the go-ahead RBIs with two outs in the 9th.

He is currently in Cubs camp as a non-roster invite.

The Palatine Pounder hit .250/.360/.372 over his two season on the North Side. He is currently in Mets camp as a non-roster invitee.

Nicholas Padilla (2022)

Padilla appeared in one game for the Cubs in 2022 and three for the White Sox in 2023. He picked up a win for team Puerto Rico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic and spent 2025 with the Phillies’ AAA team.
