Finished the rough draft of a new novel this morning and couldn't feel more awesome about it

“Our [university]system of governance (which management scientists term ‘Kafkaesque bureaucracy meets Lord of the Files,’ though no one understands these references since we cut our literature requirements)”

What?!?
Republican Elite: we are sticking with our plan to cut taxes for rich, raise taxes for working families & undermine basic safety net, terrorize everyone, and steal $billions for Trump Family, but now we call “Affordability”
Corporate Media: Republicans pivot to Affordability!

look I know being an engaged citizen IS the work of democracy but it is also the work of elected officials not to create situations where everyone has to be mobilized all the time to prevent them from allowing some kind of Dickensian horror on a Sunday night while you're in between loads of laundry
i hope they build it exactly like this
Donald Trump, wearing a red tie, speaks with both hands extended. A headline reads: "In Assault on Free Speech, Trump Targets Speech He Hates" Photo by Doug Mills/The New York Times
News Analysis: For President Trump, a wide-ranging crackdown on mainstream media institutions and political opponents is not about hate speech, but about speech that he hates — namely, speech that is critical of him and his administration. nyti.ms/3VsCyO4
And on the same shelf as Brandon Sanderson, no less!
Photograph of a bookstore shelf that includes the novel Carcrash Parker and the Haven of Larpers by Ian Rogers.
@ianmrogers.bsky.social found in the wild at The Bookery!

Under pressure from the White House, the Smithsonian has removed Trump from the impeachment exhibit at the History Museum.
The exhibit now says that “only three presidents have seriously faced removal,” referring to Johnson, Nixon, and Clinton.
The exhibit now looks the way it did in 2008.
The cover of Ian M. Rogers’ new novel, Carcrash Parker and the Haven of Larpers shows a blue sedan surrounded by images of a wizard, castle, game station, digital clock, TV, running shoes, sword & shield, treasure chest, soldier in full armor, flannel shirt, and a stack of books with a small box on top. Definitely an 80s vibe. The blurb reads: Tender, earnest, & completely original” —Sean Doolittle, author of Device Free Weekend
Can’t wait to dig into this fun read—the latest #novel from my friend and fellow alum, @ianmrogers.bsky.social!
His last book was insightful and hilarious, so I know (especially as a fan of D&D and Magic the Gathering) I’m going to love this one!

"As Baldacci concluded, this isn’t about stifling innovation—it’s about basic respect for the law and creators’ rights."

In Donald Trump's housing market, rich investors get richer by buying up more houses while working families are pushed out of homeownership.
Heroes attack ideas, while cowards attack people
So many writers write modern-day novels that don't include the Internet or smartphones -- perhaps an unconscious wish to return to a tech-free life?
"Pay no attention to how all of this is being done to give tax breaks to the wealthiest people in the country. Society is about sacrifice, and sometimes we have to give up things like rural hospitals or food assistance for the poor so that billionaires can get more boats."
"As the Trump administration’s attacks on higher education have escalated, this brief stands as a clear signal: University leaders must understand that an attack on one university’s autonomy and existence is a threat to all."

#EndStageCapitalism is weird. Who wants their armpits to smell like Girl Scout cookies or birthday cake?
"Liberal arts colleges & universities are a gem in the US, envied by people around the world. Their strength lies in challenging society’s strengths & weaknesses, & asking how to make the world more just with more freedom for everyone. Those are the true aims of higher education."

What does it mean that I'm getting better at spotting AI text without a detector?
Thanks so much, Jill!!
And sadly, none of that mad Wes Anderson option money's made its way to my pocket yet...
Just pre-ordered your book, Ian. Can't wait to read it.
Also, has Wes Anderson optioned this for a movie yet?
I feel SUPER old when people refer to events 30 or 40 years ago as having happened in "the 20th century" like it was a historical era, and I wonder if people in the 1920s felt this way too
