Publishing contrarianism for contrarianism's sake is killing us.

From Gaza to now Iran and Lebanon, Israel is expanding its testing ground for AI-enabled military technology in terrifying ways.
Read my latest piece in Zeteo about how big tech is powering Israel’s AI war machine 👇
Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.
Toronto: What we’re seeing now is that (police) are not even distinguishing between protests, academic events or cultural events. Any time there are Palestinians speaking about Palestine, they are viewed as potentially anti-semitic or promoting violence.” www.thegrindmag.ca/cops-keep-sh...
"It is incredibly lazy to treat...massive inequality...as the natural outcome of capitalism. It is understandable that the people who benefit from this inequality would make that claim, but it is bizarre that the people seeking greater equality would as well."
good one from @deanbarker.bsky.social
Effective 2025 federal tax rates paid by these corporations:
Alphabet: 8.01%
AT&T: 4.6%
Meta: 3.57%
General Motors: 3.09%
Amazon: 1.37%
Exxon Mobil: 1.31%
Disney: -1.57%
CVS Health: -3.88%
Income tax rate paid by the typical American: 14.5%
This is what a rigged system looks like.
"In the first major case in which the Court granted emergency relief as a means of shaping nationwide policy, it turns out that the justice who led the charge was the one who was doing quite a bit more than calling balls and strikes."
Me on Saturday's @nytimes.com scoop in today's "One First":
The fascist right's most insidious tactic is taking over eduction. They are grooming children.
This teaching method, pushed by conservatives, is on the rise www.washingtonpost.com/education/20...
I have to laugh when I see a tradwife try to insist that the linen farm dress is, in this modern age, a conservative fashion signal and not a bisexual cottagecore mushroom people thing.

Earlier this evening: dozens of people gathered in Chicago's far north side Rogers (Phillip) Park in support of an 18-year-old Mather High School student and his mother, who, according to the student's older brother, were abducted from the Chicago immigration court at Ida B. Wells Drive in March.
Just saw something that said Trump was told to tell the press that the Jesus image was ‘doctored’ and I can’t stop thinking and laughing about it.
Burying the lede: "In other words, the program’s impact extends beyond academics, and purely academic metrics may understate its long-term value."
The answer of course is yes and it is maddening that value can't be found in feeding and housing children for the sake of children being housed and fed.
Sal Khan and his people are really just blaming both students and teachers for "not prompting correctly".

OpenAI: We’re burning money like the Joker. A miracle needs to happen for us to turn a profit
Microsoft: Please please use our AI systems, we’re teetering on the edge here
Anthropic: I wonder what’ll kill us first: lawsuits, regulations or model collapse
Media and universities: AI is here to stay
Can confirm
NEW: A new pre-print study offers the first causal evidence that outsourcing reasoning tasks to AI can rapidly erode users' independent performance AND their will to persist despite difficulty.
"People’s persistence drops... they’re also not willing to try without AI.”

@rethinkingschools.bsky.social posted this webinar from last week's great discussion with Adam Sanchez, @jessehagopian.bsky.social, Rachel Franz of @fairplayforkids.bsky.social, and me on AI mania in K-12.
“The Bullshit Asymmetry Principle, also known as Brandolini’s Law, states that the amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it.”
Useful article. As we look at solutions though, our priority is demanding upstream leadership. #UrbanTruth
A doctor costume, honestly, not Jesus…
👏
This is very true! And as the research on the issue shows and as the Hungarian example confirms, and the Polish one before that, the key to large turnout is long-term, grass-roots organizational labor that helps people understand how their single vote is a dignified part of a larger transformation.
"I've noticed the sexist comments. But, I refuse to give these voices a platform. For me, this is solely about leadership quality - and we are fully convinced that Loui is up to the task. I find it absurd that we still have to justify this in 2026. We're talking about a highly competent leader here. We at Union stand united behind this decision and will do everything in our power to ensure that this is no longer a topic of discussion in the future. All of this is simply embarrassing."
Wow alright Union Berlin.
Horst Heldt is the Director of Football at Union Berlin and has come out in defense of the Marie-Louise Eta appointment.
"We can see how disinformation campaigns—which I view as preparatory speech acts—groom vulnerable people for associated corruption acts like sextortion fraud scams, crypto rug pulls, catfishing, sexual slavery, terroristic violence, or expansionist warfare."
