we have to post the website we wish to see in the world, but legitimate sports twitter talent beginning to dual post here which is nice

Haven’t used Bluesky in a minute. Still trying to figure out if it has the juice of twitter/x. What’s the general consensus here
Haven’t been grinding #chess in a bit but I always come back sooner or later. Here’s a pretty tidy dub in the QGD
Haven’t posted about the Buffalo mayor stuff in a few days but Rasheed Wyatt doesn’t move the needle for me other than crowding the ever-growing field. Don’t see a path for him to win unless it’s a total shitshow
Scanlon is forgiving the loan after having the city pull the plug on Braymiller’s, which could be viewed as a sign of fiscal responsibility after years of recklessness. He won’t have a single opponent anyways but I disagree with your take regardless
The HEARTS Act has passed the Senate & moves on to the President.
“I just have to give Damar (Hamlin) tremendous credit,” Senator Schumer told @buffalonews.bsky.social.
“He never gave up, & he said he wanted to turn his personal tragedy into a mission to save others”

THIS WEEK, Riy reports back on the ECDC mayoral candidate forum, we get into Braymiller's closing downtown, and more. Most importantly: COME TO THE CHRISTMAS PARTY! Next Friday, 12/20 at Days Park Tavern. Doors at 6:30.

Can’t overstate a) how much this is the perfect opening to any work of fiction and b) how much it understands me, personally
Garnell Whitfield spoke to his experience as an administrator handling multi-million dollar budgets. He was less concrete on what he *would* do and more trying to build the case for his bona fides as a leader
Scanlon was also cagey if he would still run if he didn’t get the EC Dems endorsement. I would expect that he runs a competitive primary either way
It’s not surprising to see Braymiller’s closing announced today in light of Scanlon’s comments. Between overhaul of staff & budget cuts it’s clear he wants to be seen as a reformer. He could also look like the executioner. Either way he’s in a tough position as acting mayor
Internet was not great in the convention center so no live posting. My bad. Some takeaways though:
-Sean Ryan has a large war chest ($500k) and is ready for the race
-Everyone spoke about the budget but Chris Scanlon said the city has to get its house in order before looking for more funding
At the Erie County Dems mayoral forum. I’ll try to post about anything interesting here
Syracuse & Toronto but no Buffalo show 😔 (I’ll go to the TO one but you guys would kill it here)
I’m going to attend the EC Dems forum for prospective Buffalo mayoral candidates on Thursday. I’m not great at live tweeting/skeeting (ew) but I’ll try to share stuff of interest
Whitfield’s candidacy will be interesting. His tack is that Buffalo doesn’t need another politician, it needs an administrator. That message will play very well in this race
The political part still matters tho. It remains to be seen if he can assemble enough of a coalition & cash to be viable
the play that made me think "wow this might be the greatest golden retriever of all time"
thanksgiving is a holiday commemorating the time randy moss singlehandedly annihilated the dallas cowboys in 1998. it was actually celebrated for hundreds of years prior in anticipation of this prophesied holy event
It’s easy to beat up on the Dems (and I’ve done so plenty in the past). But I don’t hear any of the delusion in the Harris ‘24 post-mortems that I heard from Clinton ‘16. It’s a pretty honest recap
I’m listening to the @podsaveamerica.bsky.social interview with Harris’ campaign staff. A couple things jump out:
-There wasn’t enough time on the clock for a pres campaign
-They view the anti-trans ads as not being effective on their own merits but more about economic mismanagement (correct, imo)
Obviously it’s WWF No Mercy
Jayapal & Markey introduced trans rights resolutions in 2023 in the House & Senate, respectively. Biden prohibited fed funded insurers from discriminating against trans ppl
More needs to be done (especially in the current climate) but most Dems I’ve seen haven’t backed away from these positions
For sure, and it’s valid criticism from that community. But I don’t think McBride’s opinion equals the Dem opinion at large. Most of the libs/whoever I have come across are pretty stridently in favor of trans rights
I think it’s important context that the person most prominently saying that is trans herself and is trying to make the GOP look insanely bigoted for discriminating against her. Most other Dems/libs I’ve seen have been pretty vocal defending trans people & rights
I bet they were asked politely

Won 2 boxes of #mtg Foundations last night on Arena after a couple tries with this sweet Sultai pool. The format is a ton of fun
(sry for the pics of the laptop, I’m a boomer)
Scanlon is shows hand early with his campaign strategy—“I want to be bold & different but the Council is holding me back”
He knows there is zero chance in hell most (if any) of this gets approved but he does get to say he tried right away to make City Hall run differently from Byron Brown’s tenure
Kennedy is a demon at fundraising which for better or worse is one of the most important things you need to be good at in Congress. He will continue to rise quickly
This is very good messaging. It’s going to be an incredibly difficult campaign but this is a great start
