And maybe this sounds mystical, but I think there's something about care taken with language that changes the receiver of it. And I think that applies not just to literary writing, but grant proposals and board reports and staff memos and blog posts.

What very few seem willing to acknowledge is that COVID is a mass-fatality event, and a mass-disabling event. There is a lot more people walking around with Long Covid than they realize.

The "Omicron is mild" message was a flat-out LIE. And it allowed all of this to happen. Also, telling people in March of 2021 that vaccines stopped infection pretty much destroyed NPIs or public education about the true long-term risks of the virus. It is heartbreaking and infuriating.

Short Covid is just Long Covid running a little late.

I think without the #LongCovid community, I honestly don't know where the hell I'd be. This is warrior-level resilience. It's taking the chaos that Long Covid throws and spitting it back out with a side of fierce determination.
