Larissa Waters asks former Treasury chief Ken Henry if it’s too simplistic to say wartime gas profits from the war on Iran can either go to Australians, or to overseas investors & shareholders.
Henry “That’s not simplistic, that’s how it is!” “It is as simple as that.” 💥 #auspol

The program for our inquiry into gas export tax this week is out, and it turns out not a single CEO is going to bother turning up.

That’s right - the gas bosses declined a request to attend a parliamentary inquiry into their own industry.

Oil prices are coming down and share prices are up, if you're not a petro company.

But actual flows of oil, LNG, fertiliser, aluminum, sulphur, helium and the rest are still being choked in the strait and the supply chain impacts have barely started.

Seems crazy to me.

A political cartoon by Megan Herbert showing an assembly of renewable energy solutions - solar panels, battery storage, high speed rail, electrified truck freight, EVs and charging infrastructure, wind turbines, and bicycles - put together in a shape that resembles a military tank. A different approach to a massive increase in military spending that would increase Australia's security and sovereignty in times of global unrest.

Iran War Pushes Asia to Think Twice Before Doubling Down on LNG A record wave of new liquefied natural gas supply was meant to usher in a prolonged period of lower prices. Governments from India to Southeast Asia crafted energy strategies that would allow them to ...

Asia was supposed to be an enormous growth market for LNG.

New from me: No increase in global coal power generation after Hormuz closure - solar and wind growth covered the fall in gas-fired generation. The record buildout of clean energy in 2025 helped mitigate the impact of the Hormuz closure.

Put yourself in shoes of someone in a oil & gas importing country

Its triage: which hospitals get fuel, which industries shut, which crops get fertilizers?

Those who don't have deep pockets in a bidding war pay in increased hunger, lost wages and shrinking economies.
