Larissa Waters asks former Treasury chief Ken Henry if it’s too simplistic to say wartime gas profits from the war on Iran can either go to Australians, or to overseas investors & shareholders.
Henry “That’s not simplistic, that’s how it is!” “It is as simple as that.” 💥 #auspol

Sarah Ferguson asks if we should ‘give something back’ to gas giants in exchange for a tax.
David Pocock “why we bargain with them?”
“I don’t think we need to give anything back. We just want a return for our gas!” 🔥 #auspol
Hey everybody! I am taking the helm of this classic American institution with @theonion.com and want to know what you fine folks would like to see from us.

Dr Richard Denniss dismantles the gas industry’s favorite threat.
If taxes kill investment, why is the gas industry rushing to Norway to pay 78%? 🙄
“They are playing us for fools.” 🔥
Nationals’ Susan McDonald has no rebuttal & scrambles to change the subject. #auspol
The program for our inquiry into gas export tax this week is out, and it turns out not a single CEO is going to bother turning up.
That’s right - the gas bosses declined a request to attend a parliamentary inquiry into their own industry.
This is life now. This shit will not be over soon.
Oil prices are coming down and share prices are up, if you're not a petro company.
But actual flows of oil, LNG, fertiliser, aluminum, sulphur, helium and the rest are still being choked in the strait and the supply chain impacts have barely started.
Seems crazy to me.
Let me live with the wisdom of an emperor decomposing on the world stage.
I am fairly certain we have never made an episode of If You’re Listening that has made more people more angry than this one youtu.be/lxwXKkHcgwM?...
A political cartoon by Megan Herbert showing an assembly of renewable energy solutions - solar panels, battery storage, high speed rail, electrified truck freight, EVs and charging infrastructure, wind turbines, and bicycles - put together in a shape that resembles a military tank. A different approach to a massive increase in military spending that would increase Australia's security and sovereignty in times of global unrest.
Best defence.

Asia was supposed to be an enormous growth market for LNG.
Not anymore. Shortages, spiking prices, massive uncertainty. Asia is moving to renewables instead

Well, compared to the targeted reductions it's a bit of a problem
New from me: No increase in global coal power generation after Hormuz closure - solar and wind growth covered the fall in gas-fired generation. The record buildout of clean energy in 2025 helped mitigate the impact of the Hormuz closure.
Apparently coal mining emissions actually went up?
Australia's largest industrial climate pollution scheme is also its most poorly understood.
Today the federal government is releasing a new round of data today: details of the second year of the reformed scheme ahead of a review this year.
Here's what we know so far...
"The attacks on Bowen are increasing now – in number and intensity – because the fossil fuel industry and its political chorus sense an opportunity to exploit the consumer angst over soaring diesel and petrol prices."
Today marks 35 years since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody made 339 recommendations to address systemic racism and over-incarceration of First Nations people.
Since then, more than 630 First Nations people have died in custody, including 12 so far in 2026.

Those who don't have deep pockets in a bidding war pay in increased hunger, lost wages and shrinking economies.

Asian liquefied natural gas imports have dropped to the lowest in almost six years as the conflict in the Middle East chokes supplies and forces buyers to curb consumption.
