Updated my desk setup a bit. Toddles is not sure how she's going to get to her bed when I'm standing up.

Did my choice of visible cabling and switch trigger the whole of the Ubiquiti sub? Absolutely.

Do I really care? Not particularly. Now I can access it, whilst still having space on my shelves for more Lego.

New networking equipment? Toddles gets supervised play with the packaging.

In South Africa, we call this state capture.

The AA5342/UH-60 crash is absolutely horrifying. My thoughts to the families and friends of everyone on both flights, and to the ATC on duty at the time. Aviation is one of the hardest and most unforgiving undertakings.

So so many. All for clicks. Yuck.

Geez man, that is super shitty. All the best for the surgery tomorrow. SA has the best specialists, so I know you'll be in good hands.

Just mount it as a visor right in front of your eyes and you basically have an AR sim racing setup.

I really wonder at the value of reporting on preprint in vivo studies. Sure, it's interesting to know that there's research on potential treatments for historically untreatable diseases, but any actual trials would be years away, let alone any approval for use of the treatment. Basically irrelevant.

That's the point where you begin to descend from Mount Stupid, and life gets much more interesting.

Even scatalogical humor gets boring if it's all you have in your repertoire.

The more you read on a subject, the more interesting it gets.

This is why most podbros are so uninteresting. They read so little, and so shallowly, on topics that they know virtually nothing. And 'virtually nothing' is extremely boring.

Agreed, although flooding is a pretty tough one to protect against. Especially when we insist on building on flood plains, or creating artificial ones (yay concrete). Hurricane design is already alive and well in a lot of places, like the southern US.

I wonder how quickly building codes and insurance requirements will change as a result of the LA fires. Fire-resistant structures clearly work.

It's already happened in Alberta, before and after the 2023 fires. I have no doubt it'll be a trend that continues to grow. Can't say I blame insurers, really.

I'm sorry it didn't work for you. That said, the research advanced in MDD and TRD in the past 10 years seem pretty astonishing. IIRC they're also trialling medically administered and monitored psilocybin doses to address it.

Yup, I'm on treatment for it, but the ADHD isn't properly managed yet. ADHD is a common comorbidity (one of several) to MDD.

How my brain currently 'works':

Hmmm, let me finish reading the breakdown of major depressive disorder.

30 seconds in: Hmmmm, I forget to figure out which kitchen shears to buy, let me go read on that.

3 hours later: oops, forgot to finish reading about MDD.

Next on the printing list is a cosmetics holder for the wife. She wants a specific design, but I can easily modify existing designs to get what she wants.

It's so interesting to see how accessible 3d printing has become, even to neophytes like me.

Cat Scratcher Cardboard Cutter V2 by Mike2121 | Download free STL model | Printables.com Cardboard cutter to cut strips uniformly to make cat scratcher | Download free 3D printable STL models

3) Needed a way to use up the absurd amounts of cardboard we have lying around the house. We have cats. Cats need cat scratchers. So I found a design (www.printables.com/model/356486...) for a cutter that cuts uniform strips of cardboard using a razor blade we already had. Print time was 45 minutes.

2) Needed somewhere convenient to store our olympic barbell when not in use. Had some strong magnets lying around, but needed a way to ensure the barbell didn't accidentally roll off them. Printed these little things to do just that. Design time: 10 minutes. Print time: 1h15m.

Odd problems I could quickly solve with some basic design and 3d printing:

1) Needed a way to hold the centre speaker over our new (tall) TV. Printed a 3-piece stand. I can change the top piece to suit a (planned) future speaker. Design time: 30 minutes (I am a bad designer). Print time: 14 hours.

Used our new gym for the first time.

It's awesome.

I am, however, very weak.
