So we spent a week in the classroom talking about AI without actually using AI at al—or even opening up a computer.
What we turned to instead? 2 short Sci-Fi stories and a whole-class seminar.
And it was really cool. (And really important?)

Clearly, he's not a student of history. Because if he was, he'd know that the one time the federal government did "take care of daycare," they did it *because of a war* and used defense funding to pay for it. 1/🧵

ICYMI. Excellent reporting by @hannahdavisreid.bsky.social on what will become of the bronze from what was once Charlottesville's Robert E. Lee statue. Three design proposals are in the running. And all local citizens can help to choose the winner. Via @vpm.org.

Happy St. Patrick's Day, New York.
Gonna hold on to this croissant metaphor for the rest of my creative life
In the OC, Ryan Atwood grew up to be a great architect.
In the real world, Ben McKenzie got an economics degree at UVA and has been hellbent on destroying crypto.
Perhaps one way to evaluate the quality of a research article is to assess its teachability.
Is the article clear about its identifying assumptions?
Does it lay out the results clearly?
Does it engage with its limitations transparently?
Thinking about how it would be very ironic if I rear-ended someone while telling Google Maps that the low visibility on Afton Mountain is, in fact, “Still There”
We should have listened when the modems screamed at us.
Yes! I’ve thought a lot about how the nomenclature around structure/format of curricular materials is limited and used inconsistently.
Screenshot of post in local Buy Nothing group. Two vintage-looking dolls on a deck railing. One has brown curly hair and a frilly dress, the other is standing in a mint green jumper and has a creepy Chuckie-esque face.
Coincidence??!
This title caught my eye! I’m wondering if the session description on the flyer is from something else? Interested in writing theory, but don’t really want to think about service today 😅
A photo of a bunch of Nike shoes.
How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia?

UVA's Board of Visitors meets tomorrow to discuss cutting gender-affirming care. You deserve to know your rights.
The Virginia Human Rights Act is clear:
No one can discriminate against Virginians based on their gender identity in places of public accommodations. That means schools & hospitals.
🚨 Thursday 13 Feb 5-7, @livablecville.bsky.social drop-in social is happening at the Ix Park @brazos.bsky.social 🚨 The weather sucks today but will be decidedly more inviting to venture out into the world tomorrow. I hope to see you there!
Hear me out —
If parents call colleges freaked about their FAFSA data being leaked, schools may have to issue statements — which would reach a whole lot more families about how warped this is.
Organizing isn’t always calling electeds. Sometimes it’s just calling people with a bigger megaphone.
"We really do need to have a discussion about what’s age-appropriate, what parents want and kids need. And that’s probably not going to be one conversation. That’s probably going to be 50 conversations, one in each state." www.the74million.org/article/even...

Hmm, my guess is something about the sentence construction. Water doesn’t “freeze” at 27 degrees (F) — it is already frozen. Since 27 isn’t the freezing point (in any unit), it doesn’t register as accurate?
don’t touch that it’s my emotional support bedside book I like to look at longingly while I scroll on my phone for an hour

Happy new year I guess
