I also had 5 Pilots, so by the end of everything they were all at Skill 3, which is.... quite a boon against the clans and how fast their stuff is.
I found the best way to fight the automated opponent though is activation order knowledge, knowing how you want to respond, even at lost initiative
My mission choices lead me to face Fulcrums I think... once. I just know that Locust IIC is also a nasty surprise at times. That and the time I saw the Rifleman C 2. 18" of jump... EUUGGH
Save up some SP, there are some good pickings to buy from the AML! Incubus/Phoenix Hawk IIC 5 were big for me

I did some playtesting/list testing for the Battle of New Avalon campaign I'm doing. Take a guess who made a spearhead into the King of the Hill objective on my DCMS side?
One of them did get a unit destroyed crit on a a squirrely Scorpion SCP-1BR.
