to that end, is it a frequently discussed and progressed topic or is it largely something that gets put on hold and returned to every now and again in favor of focusing on new content/revisiting other less divisive mechanics to improve?
either way, such a change would need tons of community feedback

so i'll take that as the way people want the system to change is a complicated and divisive topic internally leaving analysis of how it holds up in modern design on hold until consensus, which makes sense
if the preferred systems can be individually released it'd be nice to try experiments for each

minecraft is ever evolving but i do genuinely wonder if this is just in response to how it was designed nearly 1.5 decades ago or how the team considers it recently
i know minecraft addresses specific parts per update but for such an integral part to progression its a fairly sizable thing to neglect

this also isnt even to mention how anvils can break too, which is just salt on the wound (for the record, this would stay the same in my ideal anvil/enchantment scenario as the limitation to repairs rather than being tied to tool costs)

i know theres some element to player interaction that prefers the easiest way out while make being set for as long as possible, hence why "god armor" guides exist, but since its been solved and actively competes with the anvils capacity to repair items then it makes using them for repairs worthless

with item impermanence (which i didnt consider much about), it's far more well received to have tool fragility be something you progress out of past a point in progression, however if how anvils behave as it stands isnt just neglected but holds up to the modern design then that's really strange

people dog on 1.17 (even though 1.18 released in the holidays and 1.19 a year after 1.17) but 1.18 alone despite not adding the new features itself genuinely made me like mining (which is Kinda important, i just made farms before)
