"When [Charlus] had discovered that he was 'one of them,' he had supposed this to mean that his tastes, as Saint-Simon says, did not lie in the direction of women. And here was this expression taking on, for Morel, an extension of meaning of which M. de Charlus was unaware, so much so that Morel gave proof, according to this letter, of being "one of them" by having the same taste as certain women for other women." -- Proust, "The Captive," in which even queer people are routinely surprised at all the stuff "queer" can mean

When the Glenns Greenwald and Katies Herzog of the world complain about "diluting the meaning of queerness" feel free to assure yourself that it has always meant A Bunch Of Stuff

I love catching little flashes of trans life in Proust. Like, he writes that a lot of closeted gay men are married to very butch women, with whom they have the same sex they'd have with men. One guy discovers his boyfriend is having an affair with a lesbian who addresses him with she/her pronouns.

Biologically, when a man encounters a baby in the wild, he can and will eat it. After siring offspring, the man's mate or keeper will take care to smear them with a sticky, inedible paste, allowing the man to spend time with his own young without devouring it.

That's actually from the Tynion run! Alvaro Martinez Bueno had the multiple nesting mouths, which I love. Xermanico's Clayface from One Bad Day looks great too though -- sort of a Medusa thing happening.

Clayface: Digging Up the Dirt The many Clayfaces behind "Clayface: Celebrity Dirt."

Over at the newsletter: I got to write a Clayface series, and (in the process) discover that it has always been my destiny to write a Clayface series. Here's a bit on the character's history, why I love him and which other comics I read to get him right: jude-doyle.ghost.io/clayface-dig...

CHILD (watching "Mean Girls"): So, she's a Goth and he's gay.

ME: Yep.

CHILD: They'll probably get married.

ME: ... why do you think that gay people and Goths get married?

CHILD: Eh. Happened to you and Dad, didn't it?

There's this bit "Sexual Personae" about how men are responsible for all technology & culture, in which she says ONLY MEN could have come up with the idea of BRIDGES because they PEE STANDING UP and it goes in a LINE like a BRIDGE, and honestly, reading that as bottom dysphoria might help me forgive

Dead Teenagers #2 Review The kids have plenty of experience with dying, having done it over 10,000 times. But what do they do when they have to live?

Dead Teenagers #2 by @judedoyle.bsky.social shows some surprising emotional depth for a comic about high schoolers getting killed over and over again in increasingly creative ways.

I once heard the phrase "abusers are either grooming you as a victim or a character witness," and it has lived in my head since then.

Don't forget there's a mid-credits scene in the S2 finale of The Pitt. Don't want to spoilt it too much but I can't wait to see Dana in Avengers: Doomsday

"I did not ATTEND the online information source that teaches men to drug and sexually assault their wives, I merely VISITED it" oh
neat
anyway
into the sea with you

I do not find this a convincing quibble. "Attended an online rape academy" is vivid copy for the dek and socials, because editors assume their readers don't understand the Internet enough to understand "hits per month." CNN was clear about number of visits per month and number of men in discussions
