Raven sitting on top of a tree

There’s a raven on campus, not common for our part of the US, and I’m delighted.

Yet again I remind everyone (as Elizabeth does in her very next tweet) that "foreigners are corrupting our pure blood with weakness & disease" is Fascism 101. Not some variant, not some metaphorically similar thing, not some echo -- the thing itself.

I always tell students: a good university education doesn't teach you answers; it teaches you questions.

First, stop it. We are <constantly> looking in the mirror & if you haven’t done any of the trainings or gone to any of the talks/meeting about that, I can’t help you.

Second, we don’t have time. We’re constantly meeting about how to survive as 25% of our budget is illegally cut off by the fascists.

You can annotate pdfs and do a lot of tagging in Zotero, so is the added benefit here the database of annotations specifically?
Genuinely asking, I’m an academic librarian.

Stream It Or Skip It: 'To Philly With Love' on the Hallmark Channel, where a historian researching a Revolution-era romance falls for a local archivist …and of course there the romance features cheesesteaks, it would be a crime if it didn’t.

Umm, this is NOT what I mean when I say that I LOVE LIBRARIANS! But if any #skystorians want to watch a Hallmark channel meet-cute romcom (crossed with Tom Stoppard's Arcadia) between a historian & archivist - in Philly, just in time for the 250th! - please report back.👀

JK Rowling’s support of transphobia has been absolutely catastrophic for the entire world. She funded a far right movement, tested, weaponized it—and it is a cancer eating away at multiple societies. She normalized a lying narrative about people that will plague future generations. She is a curse.

my book is expensive because it’s an academic book, so while I’m so thankful to those of you who’ve pre-ordered it, requesting that your library order it is just as good.

it’s also going to be open access so any one can read it online. save your money!

An important thing to note when discussing this topic is that NASA has a MANDATE to do outreach and education and messaging about its science. It’s a core principle for them. And as such that outreach is FUNDED.

What we need is for more agencies to be rewritten to add mandates like this!

Same. I’m an academic librarian, my partner is a desktop engineer. We both understand, use, and teach others about technology daily. We’ve both also made a conscious point to avoid bringing surveillance tech into our home.

They are refunding tickets and you have to rebuy with absolutely no guarantee you’ll get new tickets or as good of seats. And Ticketmaster is being super unclear about when or how. The show is in one week, we’ve had tickets since October 😭

Well my least favorite thing about Philadelphia, sports, is officially ruining my favorite thing, access to concerts and theatre. The fucking Flyers are in the playoffs so the Florence +The Machine show is being moved to a smaller venue in AC. I’m incandescent with rage.

I don't recall any previous transformative technologies that had to be sold to the public so hard. No one in 1999 was going, "Guys. Cell phone? It's coming, whether we like it or not. I think it's important, FOR WOMEN ESPECIALLY, to learn about cell phone. So that we're not left behind!!"

I wasn't super locked into that discourse bc I was in grad school at the time, but it always just seemed like the media decided her earnestness was "embarrassing" and decided to punish her for it. Like "this b*tch is too likeable, time to put her in her place." So gross.
