Oh man I forgot how far lax is from the rest of… anywhere you actually want to go.
I’m going to be in this taxi for longer than I was in the air flying from sfo lmao
Woah 😳
Welp. For the first time in my life I heard them make an actual “is there a doctor onboard?” announcement. Obviously the health and safety of everyone on board comes first, but I also do hope they don’t have to do an ATB 😅
Off to LA for AX ✈️
Unexpected upgrade to business class, can’t hate that!

What the ACTUAL fuck. For half a second I was happy to the see the name of my Alma mater, but this is not how I wanted to see it. I mean, at least it seems like the university isn’t complicit, but still, what the SHIT

I would bet money that the day the Space Age DLC came out, engineering productivity around the world dropped by a significant amount 😂
Take my advice: don’t get into factorio 😂
Depending on your flavor of ADHD you’ll either fall into the pit of scouring the internet for the best possible blueprints and copy pasting that, or learn enough about matrix solvers that you end up regretting not taking linear algebra back in college
Above, a picture of a Sanshin, a three-stringed instrument commin in traditional Okinawan music. Below, a picture of a Shamisen, a three-stringed instrument that is a descendant of the Sanshin, and common across a broad range of traditional Japanese music. Both have a long neck and an instrument head made out of animal skin, similar to a banjo. The Shamisen is larger (100cm, vs the 80cm Sanshin), and has a more square body, with a white head, compared to the snakeskin used on the Sanshin.

Ah, I forgot the sanshin is often played with a finger pick instead of the larger bachi used for shamisen. The rounder sides and shape of the face could also make it look like the shape seen in that picture.
Sadly no caption for that last picture in the book... 🥲
I'm also curious what song he was working on here... the instrument he's holding looks like a shamisen, but he doesn't have a bachi, and the shamisen are usually square/rounded square, where this has distinctly obtuse angles. Three string erhu? Or is it more like a lute shape, hidden in the shadow?
The Stache is so iconic!
But somehow the offices in Japan have changed so little that, barring the CRTs, this feels like it could have been taken this year 😂
I've got what feels like the exact same plastic umbrella (with the sticker still on) next to my desk
Man this picture goes hard
lose their safe harbor protections. Obviously you don't really want to fight Nintendo even if you are in the right, but that's why it's important to document the timing of your complaints, and their receipt thereof.
@ifnotnowgwen.bsky.social you ever had to escalate copyright issues to NOA?
A lot of the DMCA is actually written to protect platforms, not rightsholders. One of the primary tenets is that iff platforms (Nintendo in this case) responds to complaints 'swiftly,' that they cannot be held liable for infringing content on their platform, but if that is not the case they can 1/

I’m not sure if their phone connects directly to a person, but it might be worth giving it a shot.
Fax may be good too, since it leaves definitive proof the message was received
For me it’s probably 「日本人じゃないって忘れた」

Anyone have recs for a game that could be played on a long flight?

Again, you are ignoring my point that even if the experience of Portland is as bad as you say, that is indicative of bad individuals not a flawed system.
But fine, pretend alternative voting systems are the root of all evil. What real, hard changes are you invested in?
I’m not sure how you got from me saying RCV is strictly superior to FPTP to “wasting [my] whole life.”
Clearly you think there is some issue in Portland, which may be true, but hyperfocusing on that as a reason why a system that works just fine elsewhere seems like more of an obsession, imo
If a system of voting that improves democracy is against your values or something, that says more about your values than it does the system.
I am not up to date on whatever is going on in Portland, but even assuming there are “grifters,” that is an issue with individuals, not with RCV as a concept
RCV has literally nothing to do with any “leftist” or other ideology. And if it was about using a city as a “test case,” surely that would have been done in the Bay Area, where multiple municipalities have had IRV for 20+ years, or Maine, which has had IRV for federal elections since 2018/2019
Then tell me what is a better, realistic, thing to spend limited time and attention on. If anything FPTP is worse w minority opposition due to the spoiler effect, and while improving education to help ppl better identify partisan dogwhistles like calling the ACA “Obamacare,” that takes a generation+
