As an empire in decline, U.S. parents, esp those of pre-high schoolers, need to start stressing the importance of speaking multiple foreign languages, investigating paths to citizenship in other countries, and encouraging kids to think about a future beyond U.S. borders.

I have similar meetings much too often.

Since moving to Austin, I've learned those lines painted in the road are just suggestions.

Ok. Take my bike and the rack. But you're NOT getting my u-lock!
(Sheldon Brown would be very disappointed.)
Fine. Take the bike. But you're NOT getting my bike rack!
This would only encourage would-be thieves to steal your buddy's bike too.
And here we have the removable rack secured to the removable rear wheel, with the cable simply looped over the saddle/seatpost. No one is just going to roll it away, but still...
Don't be this guy.
The cable is only threaded through the removable bolt-on bike rack.
Found these visual instructions for a u-lock mount. The geometry represented in pics 1 and 3 is novel. And regardless of where you install your u-lock bracket, the saddle almost never goes in the head tube.

Some of y'all planning to shit 600 times in the next 3 days?
Mission Accomplished. Some minor issues with used eBay parts, but got it sorted. Being used to the Cutthroat, this thing feels very twitchy.
Gemini analyzed some homeopathic allergy medicine my wife picked up. Do I tell her, or let her enjoy the placebo effect?
Before today, I knew nothing about headsets.
I learned this is a FSA cartridge bearing... and it isn't supposed to be in pieces or look like that.
I found a set of Force 1 shift levers on eBay that came with a derailleur and flat-mount calipers. I'm a little nervous about these post-to-flat mount adapters I found.
But as my daughter told me once: "Brakes? Who needs brakes? Stopping is overrated."
I'm rebuilding my old Motobecane CX bike. Should be good for building skills underbiking on twisty single-track and a less-likely-to-be-stolen commuter than my Cutthroat.

Mine was a solo bikepacking trip through Big Bend National Park. I'd dreamed of it for years and finally just did it. It was hot, dry, and much harder than I expected. In other words, amazing.
I thought this had more than a few good bits.
On this day, a child was born who left an indelible mark on human history, transforming our understanding of the world. Famous for his long hair, he unraveled the mysteries of the heavens and brought light to the world.

Daughter chose 'The Exorcist' as our family Christmas Eve movie. She's never seen it and I decided, at 14, it might be a bit too much. We settled on Stranger Things, letting everyone get caught up in preparation for tomorrow.
I know I'm late to #Festivus but... special-use tools suck.
My SRAM self-extracting crank arm cap came loose. It fell out a few times while riding on the trainer. I didn't lose it. But if I had, the part itself is only $8.90.
The tool to install it costs $10.99 plus a $10 tube of threadlocker.

My dreams of seeing, in my lifetime, a Cannonball Run with only self-driving vehicles in Mad Max Mode, are likely to remain just dreams.
Age is catching up to me.
I just looked at the clock to see that it's 8:13pm, and decided it's too late to start a movie.
