This is exactly right. It’s not a dilemma though. It’s a line in the sand that will at once once collapse what remains of the rule of law and regulatory infrastructure designed to protect the public.

When SCOTUS acted b4 to overturn states' violations of basic rights asserted in the federal constitution, its rulings superseded state sovereignty as "the law of the land." But now SCOTUS violates basic rights asserted in state constitutions. That contradiction can't be whisked away & must be faced.
Reminding: the US agreed to the G7 commitment *not* to lift sanctions on Russia regardless of higher gas prices. The US quickly violated this agreement. Now, Bessent announces that the US will continue to suspend sanctions on Russian oil a 2nd month. The US's word means nothing---except for Russia.
Nota Bene: This is the consequence of normalization. Even legacy media decline to report salient facts affecting all Americans: a principal US negotiator is beholden to a foreign power seeking to manipulate US foreign policy. BTW, it's Witkoff, too, & both seek more foreign money to be beholden to.
If we learned one thing from Hungary, this is how to campaign in 2026.
cc: DNC (btw, get a Bluesky account).
@timothysnyder.bsky.social has led several fundraising campaigns to help #Ukraine survive Russian aggression. He asks now for a new campaign to help it defend against Russian air attacks. With the US under Trump abandoning Ukraine, consider donating to #SkyDefense.

True. Pass it on.
There is also a”war crimes” doctrine.
This was achieved despite extreme gerrymandering: the key to Orban's 2/3 majority in prior elections. Even the most egregious plan to "choose one's own voters" could work after Orban's corruption of power. It took a while, but Hungary's voters came to a true civic consciousness. Take note America.
You'll see a lot of pablum coming from EU officials. In fact, few did much to foster a European Hungary. And over 16 years, many acted to allow Orban's turn away from Europe. That makes what Hungarians did now more impressive. Yes, they chose Europe. May the EU indeed choose Hungary this time.
Do not forget the war against #Ukraine. Russia continues its aggression & war crimes---targeting civilians, hospitals, churches, emergency responders, energy facilities, press-ganging Ukrainian citizens in occupied territory---as the world is pre-occupied by Trump's unleashing of violence elsewhere.
The @nytimes.com should be ashamed of its coverage. There are certainly legitimate questions to ask if you are a reporter about purposes & effects. But the 1 journalist assigned to the largest single day of protest in US history didn't ask any of the organizers. This is journalistic malpractice.
To #NoKings3 demonstrators, be inspired by your fellow fighters for democracy in Georgia (the country). They aren't giving up either.
New York City is always up for the count. (Happy to have been a marshal. We keep each other safe, too.)
One can overstate ("totalitarian" is a high bar to meet) but one should be alarmist. Carr acts to gain political control over the airwaves. We already see unprecedented corporate politicization of social media & now broadcast media (CBS, next CNN). So, yes, act like it. Join #NK3 protest & movement.
Correct.
Conventions. That Hegseth flagrantly violates the laws of warfare shows that he should never have been put in charge of sending America's soldiers & pilots into harm's way. Those who voted him into that position should be ashamed. Those leaders who now fail to impeach should be more so. 2/2
Truly, fighters go to war w/ some basic concepts. One, they must be treated according to the Geneva Conventions. Indeed, fighters know something more basic: they themselves must treat enemy fighters according to the Geneva Conventions so *they* might be treated according to the Geneva...1/
Sometimes it takes low-tech to defeat hi-tech.

Good for the G7 countries. But don't expect the U.S. to stick to such an agreement. Indeed, expect the U.S. to do what it can to make sure its illegal war against Iran aids Russia's illegal war against Ukraine.
And we must keep saying it. No one should be treated this way. No one.
The aim is to normalize brutal treatment of residents. To normalize fear. For us to be afraid to leave our home (like Wesley Powers, who yet summoned courage to speak out). Millions now live in fear. We speak out for them.
Lawyers to the rescue.
Ukrainian law enforcement identified russian war criminal, major general in the lead of the terrorist strike against Kyiv children's hospital Okhmatdyt on July 8, 2024. That is Sergey Kuvaldin who now holds the post of the head of russia's long-range aviation.
Never forgive.
Never forget.
Correct.
The US government under President Donald Trump has abandoned Ukraine. But American citizens should not. @u24.gov.ua is one of the best ways to support Ukraine's urgent needs. @razomforukraine.org is another. #StandWithUkraine
Yes. We have seen this movie. And for the Kurdish people, one hopes they remember that the history is one of abandonment (across 3 countries) when the moment comes for US leaders to align with authoritarians.
If only Tillis had known about this book when she was nominated
Essentially, Rubio is saying that Trump is a weak president who must resort to war in every circumstance b/c he has no other means to influence events or other countries other than war. Rubio thus renders himself superfluous. He is deep down the rabbit hole.
