"Usually most of the Holocaust narratives, I would find, are about the sanctification of the victim. They suffered, therefore, they become ennobled, and that’s what the story is. That’s such bullshit... that notion of suffering is a very Christian notion." pen.org/art-spiegelm...

Not yet, my dear. Not effin’ yet.
Oi! Some of us have just turned 78.
sent it to J, who recalled it as 'a bit OTT'.

Anna & Maria Pellicci say please support our crowdfund to publish a book of the magnificent portraits of WOMEN AT WORK taken by Spitalfields Life Contributing photographer Sarah Ainslie since 1992. www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/sarah-ains...
The first uses GDoS has for 'unc/unk' neutrally defined as abbrev. of 'uncle', come from two VA writers, pub. 1868, 1884; the second, Bagley, 'The Old Virginia Gent.' 1884 is attached. A third (1903) refs KY. There may be earlier examples but as yet unfound. I also need to bring things up to date.
I'm amazed that you haven't had infinite comments demanding the inclusion of tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding... As for 1st and second b'fast, when not otherwise engaged, Patrick O’Brian's Maturin & Aubrey go for those: early snack first, very serious multi-choice tackled later.
Pretty sure mine, bought en route London-Venice ‘66, was silver/black . May, as ever, be talking bollix.
New times, same old arguments. New post on my Brexit & Brexitism blog discussing the latest developments in the rapidly changing international order and how post-Brexit Britain is stuck in delusions of greatness and cries of Brexit betrayal: chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2026/04/new-...
Or whatever else might be sure but, importantly, slow.
Is that, btw, what might be termed ‘reform blue’?
Update #38 of GDoS is now up and I trust running as par of the database. About time too.
As I have said many times: I am 7[x], slang is 17. If I survive my next stop is 7[x+1]. Slang will be 17. It will always be so. The abyss between me, the collector, and the users/coiners is unbridgeable. Never more so than post-socials. I can only retreat to predates. Meanwhile, it's GDoS update #38
Surely, his downfall 😜 won't be long now.
The best and most effective way to annoy MAGA is to reply with just *this* picture.

The almost sacred perfection of a bunch of asparagus, 1697, by Adriaen Coorte. It’s his day today.
Does anyone know who originated this image. I know an earlier version (by R. Cruikshank) from Pierce Egan's 'Life in London' (1821) but that may not be first?
So so happy to give her this news in person today. Little Dolly Parton deserves this break in life ❤️

Just posted a new substack offering a rundown on the latest update of GDoS. I await my technical consultant's expertise, but this will give, I hope, an overview of what the last three months' researches have yielded up. open.substack.com/pub/jonathon...
Here are the Top 5 Dogs of the week!
A brief sample of new entries added to Green's Dict. of Slang over the last 90 days. A full update is due very soon.
A brief sample of predated examples of material in Green's Dict. of Slang researched over the last 90 days. A full update is due very soon.
As noted yesterday, it's GDoS Update Time again. I await only the laying on of hands by the incomparable jessesword.com and all will be revealed. For now, a couple of samples’ lists: 1. a selection of new terms and 2. of the dict's most recent (and long-ago) predates of what exists.
@pastoralpunk.bsky.social Thanks. Apologies for repeat post but I wanted that first verse.
