When you read about applications of "AI" in medicine, a good Q to ask is "what is the billing code for that 'service'?"
In the case of "screening" for IPV, no indication is required (unlike "assessments").
To document physical abuse, you can use ICD-10 code T74.1. Relevant source:

"And Montana is one of at least 10 states whose leaders say projects launched under the federal program [Rural Health Transformation Program] could lead rural hospitals to cut services so they can continue to afford to offer emergency and other essential care."
Any Health Department who touted the RHTP as a win rather than a bandaid over massive cuts to direct medical services is going to suffer pretty massive blowback as essential services dry up. But everyone will have a shiny new data dashboard as a consolation prize!
The Trump budget calls to eliminate the Native Hawaiian education program but doesn't eliminate the Alaskan Native education program.
What's the difference, you might ask? One state voted for him, and one didn't.
Fig 1: Study design and transcript discovery pipeline showing Nanopore cDNA libraries from villous placenta (n=72 term births, 36 controls and 36 GDM-affected); comparison of annotated features between GENCODE v45 and lr-assembly showing 63.5% reduction in isoforms and 73.1% reduction in genes; transcript distribution by structural category (FSM, ISM, NIC, NNC, and other classes) for all and high-confidence isoforms; transcriptional breadth across 15 GTEx tissues and cell lines; isoforms detected at increasing expression thresholds with placenta shown as thick black line; and transcriptional complexity as mean isoforms per gene (±1 SD) with placenta maximum of 108..
🎉 It's published! Our placental long-read transcriptome is now in @natcomms.nature.com! Thank you to @arjunbhattac.bsky.social, @jonhuang.bsky.social, and @mikelove.bsky.social for collaborating on this first project of my postdoc @mdanderson.bsky.social. A recap 🧬🫄🧵 www.nature.com/articles/s41...
We are losing this generation of brown and Black young men, keeping up this ridicule and ostracism that drive them into the arms of white supremacy.

Congrats to @seantbres.bsky.social for getting this out!
I'm very excited by many aspects of this:
- leveraging differential placental transport to partition maternal vs fetal related signals
- potential to address long standing Qs about gestational age vs birthweight
- better replicate experiments
Another preprint from our group @mdanderson.bsky.social led by talented postdoc @seantbres.bsky.social! Joint with @jonhuang.bsky.social, exploring the intersection of environmental toxins, maternal/fetal health, and placental txomics. Tweet thread below!

It requires both monotonicity and no-epistasis, something that biology violates all the time. Imagine if organisms were so fragile that every variant led to knockout behavior. It's something I've pointed out numerous times. See, e.g. ref 44 of this commentary: doi: 10.1097/EDE.0000000000001623
I know I've said this a trillion times but I have to say it periodically to keep from going insane:
The right ran a huge, well-funded, & ultimately successful campaign to completely take over political media & the infosphere more generally. This is by far the most important political development...
A great write-up on brand-new research I was involved in. We used a really different approach from the ones that we & many others have used previously to estimate how many Covid deaths there *really* were--almost 20% more than known. Our results broadly accord w others but add new demographic detail
Thank you to BK Reader for covering the fact that the Warehouse Exhibition opens on April 4 at the Bedford Library: www.bkreader.com/lifestyle-cu... - everyone is invited to visit through June 27. It's free and open to the public.
Wait. It's actually 5 😭
Someone find one-month-ago me and kick him for accepting 4 peer reviews due within a week of each other.
Mahalo nui to all the co-authors (sorry I can't find your accounts on here!) and to the brilliant scientists who inspired this, including the wonderful Prof @gemmasharp.bsky.social
International surveys across diverse settings show that this generation's partners and men are invested. Healthcare and community organizations are providing models for engagement.
But, we need a broader engagement at all levels to support children and families. There are no short cuts!
In the modern context, a disconnection from traditions & cultures is being filled by manosphere influencers.
But there are ways forward:
As we detail in the paper, revival of Indigenous cultures have been an avenue for developing young men.
The early development of future partners, spouses, husbands, uncles, etc. shape much more than their own physical health & reproductive fitness, they affect families and generations.
In particular, historical & on-going policies and institutions stack the deck against Black and brown boys and men.
Figure 1. An integrated social and biological framework for male preconception health. Shows the interrelationships between social and biological development on maternal health and the next generation.
I'm particularly proud of our international team who all contributed valuable perspectives to perhaps the most collaborative paper I've ever worked on.
We point out that we can't just focus on the men, or on reproduction. Just as with women & girls, we need to be thinking of boys & young men.
Aloha mai,
Our paper on the role of men & partners in intergenerational health is finally out after 3+ years!
Adopting a transdisciplinary lens, we were particularly inspired by women who've sounded the alarm on imbalanced research & responsibility for years.

And it's also wrong.
One is about white, would-be, allies capitalizing on the trauma of women of color to marginalize Black male creators and the other one won Best Picture.
Update: It is an engineering PhD / AI evangelist that is now making the a pitch that you can just pull clinical data to apply a one-off published multivariable results to quality improvement
Epis are not doing this.
Not me reading this while sitting in a day-long workshop / pitch sesh by one such RWE company.
But also, you are giving epis too much credit for the political capital needed to drive this market. Every champion (in the US at least) has an MD. I dunno if MBBSs have the same cachet...
Wilhelmina Crosson (1900 – 1991) was one of the first African-American female teachers in Boston and developed city's first remedial reading program in 1935. She was also an early advocate of Black History education.

Such beautiful penmanship, too.
The evidence for age at menarche/first gravid must be endogenous to the socioenvironmental causes that cause/confound them. The intervention is not age itself. Other behavioral causes that change hormonal profile, sure, but I think they are more relevant to trends in HICs than the global population.
Day #219145 of chasing narrow and antisocial definitions of masculinity
What reproductive cause are you referring to? Reduced fertility rates?
