2nd grader's HW is correcting sentences on a worksheet (making sure the first letter is capitalized l, etc.).
7yo: "Can you help me correct this sentence?"
Me: "You know, this is my job. People pay me to correct their sentences."
7yo: "Seems pretty easy."
Ouch.

I wish I could be there with my sister historians!

So you mean all these different Word documents with notes from readings, as well as myriad post-it notes with half-formed thoughts that I've stuck on and around my computer, don't magically transform into a coherent narrative while I drink my coffee??

Email from a store with subject "Don't stress! There's still time to grab last-minute gifts"

Email from a store with subject "Don't stress! There's still time to grab last-minute gifts"

I'm getting emails from stores about ordering last-minute. We're TWO weeks away from Christmas; are we really already at the last-minute stage already?
My response to Belk:
1. Rude!
2. Yes please, I will order some gifts.

Excerpt from article, reading, "Osceola apparently became ill with malaria. On October 21, 1837, his entourage of Seminole chiefs and warriors agreed to meet with U.S. army officials at Fort Peyton, south of St. Augustine, under a flag of truce to discuss peace proposals. Following orders issued by General Thomas Jesup, the officers ignored the white Hag and seized Osceola and his men. They were taken to St. Augustine and placed in cells in Fort Marion, the renamed stone Spanish castillo."

I'm reading what must be a poorly scanned rendition of a journal article. Clearly the original must say "white flag," but I cannot help but be tickled by the idea that a "white Hag" warned Jesup and tried to keep him from capturing Osceola at that meeting.

I'm at the editing stage where I fix a few words, then doomscroll for 30 mins. Then fix something else, repeat. Yet I still hope to be done by noon today so that I can enjoy the a holiday break.

Now I'm eating an entire thing of chocolate-covered almonds. This container was supposed to last more than 5 minutes.

I was unclear: I was a high school student at Uni and used the typewriter in the Uni library (c. 1999).

I actually used a typewriter in the Uni library for some application in the late 90s. I have no idea what kind of typewriter it was, nor what the application was. No way it was this one, right?

Is anyone who's not already officially on vacation actually getting any work done today? I am at my desk trying to whip this draft into shape, and it turns out I'm totally checked out.

Me, when I order chocolate from my Girl Scout: I'm only going to buy one box of the English toffee because I have no self control, and I don't need to eat many, many boxes in one sitting.
Me, when chocolate arrives: This is so yummy and I can't stop eating it. Why didn't I buy many, many boxes??

Y'all drop us a line if you're here and want to be added to the @sawh1970.bsky.social starter pack!

My fourth grader's social studies assignment is to make a brochure for the colonies (she got to choose southern, middle, or New England, and she picked NE). My little historian heart is totally geeking out over the assignment. History?? Tourism?? Yes!!

@adamkotsko.bsky.social , in case you feel like writing more about Star Trek

I've only promised a chapter by the end of the year (down from an initial goal of a draft of the whole darn thing; I had to keep revising what was feasible, and finally settled on a chapter), but this is still enough to induce anxiety dreams!

Today I'm reading about Grant's and AG Akerman's fight against the KKK during Reconstruction. Let's see what lessons are still applicable.

Apparently I'm now at the age where I take pictures of birds in my yard. This friend was flitting around my car while I was in the driveway. Pretty sure it's a ruby-crowned kinglet (thanks, Merlin app!)

Historians, I need help finding sources. Is there a biography of Osceola?

This year I had written few words by Halloween but also the house was a wreck. There's hope for a chapter by Christmas, though! (Don't ask how the house will look by December.)

Congratulations! That's a huge accomplishment!

Yay! It looks like this is actually happening! Now, has someone already made an SHA and SAWH starter pack?
