Airway macrophage specific expression of a dense glycocalyx and its remodelling following viral infection The glycocalyx is best studied for its regulation of immune cell trafficking from the vasculature into inflamed tissues. The glycocalyx is composed of a range of glycans and glyco-proteins that form a...

Had a fantastic time at Dangerous Matter – a powerful opera on the history of vaccination, premiered at the RNCM in collaboration with the University of Oxford. It’s been a privilege to be involved in project – from speaking at the Science and Industry Museum workshop to hosting students in the lab.

New technologies provide more detailed information. What old concepts should we revisit? To start - do all lymphocytes really express CD45?

A bar graph showing that the earlier career stage a researcher was, the more likely they were to think that it was appropriate to use AI in editing research papers. It was also more likely that earlier career researchers have themselves used AI to edit their own papers.

A bar graph showing that the earlier career stage a researcher was, the more likely they were to think that it was appropriate to use AI in editing research papers. It was also more likely that earlier career researchers have themselves used AI to edit their own papers.

The most popular use of AI was to edit papers, and here, career stage mattered.

Early career academics were far more likely to have used, or think it was acceptable to use, AI in editing their work.

Why bad philosophy is stopping progress in physics Theoretical physicists are in thrall to a misguided mindset that allows viable ideas to be advanced only by overturning what already exists.

A very interesting read for anyone who is interested in how prior assumptions may influence progress. In Immunology, new techniques enable us to rewrite the past. Sometimes the old concepts need checking
