This isn't that uncommon - Blades in the Dark, Fate Core, and derived games do this. 20 or so skills is about 8 or so too many for me though.

Hey @perplexingruins.bsky.social - how would you feel about one of your dungeons being used on our One-Shot Actual Play channel, Unconventional GMs? (DM me if easier!)
Ways to be a great convention player
- show up on time with enthusiasm, pencils, and dice
- "play up" the other players - notice spotlight yourself
- help the GM with safety tools, breaks, and turn taking
- role-play! find a quirk in your pregen as a starting point and play to it
- smile and listen
filling in my pre-books for North Star RPG covention, so a good time to say again - if you're only GMing, and not playing, games, you're missing out half of the hobby. If you're a seasoned con GM, you should be trying to be as great a player as you can be too.
Long have I longed for KARTAS to feature a UK folklore story set in Slaithwaite or Penistone. Big fan of @kennethhite.bsky.social 's "Knaresborough" pronounciation too.
bar chart of games - highest bars are 13th Age Glorantha and By Endurance We Conquer
44 #TTRPG game sessions played so far in 2026 - and the most frequent ones are @chaosium.bsky.social 13th Age Glorantha and @gauntletrpg.bsky.social By Endurance We Conquer!
Absolutely no surprise to anybody...
Great game of Mythic Bastionland @bastionland.bsky.social this week - using the one-shot one-myth system - expect it out soon once the editing dwarves get down the video mines!
@morkborg.com and its cousins make perfect one-shot #TTRPG games, right? Here's how I hack them to improve the experience

In retrospect, I think that the montage in this adventure worked particularly well because it took place along a magical pathway. We were free to invent challenges and solutions that were dreamlike, and we knew in advance that they had no bearing on the everyday world to which we then returned.
Yeah, it might have lots of those skills, but it doesn't have any rules for actually resolving an exciting argument (like Counsels in TOR for instance)
Not at all, please continue talking bollocks!
What does your editor think? Get someone to look at the whole thing, and you'll get proper useful feedback you've paid for.
No disrespect to us here, but crowdsourcing style guidance from the internet is unlikely to be fruitful.
Check it out!
The vast majority of TTRPG players are playing D&D, Pathfinder, or (the interminably fiddly) Call of Cthulhu, though? I can't think of a rules light game that's actually made it as an entry point.
Agree. I think we miss a trick when we say "D&D is too complex for new players" - the complexity is part of the attraction. Look at the recentish trend for punishingly difficuly video games (Dark Souls etc) - new players really do want tons of options and compexity (like us)
Resharing for the Monday crowd! Check out our 13th Age game with special guest Jonathan Tweet!
Storm Bull Shaman Duck? I'm there.
promo picture for the Paragon Blade, a hardback RPG book, showing three characters on the cover
Great fun this afternoon running @omnihedron.co.uk through a one-shot of The Paragon Blade, @pelgranepress.bsky.social @mytholder.bsky.social 's Gumshoe One-2-One game of mythic fantasy. Conn the Unslain is still Unslain!
Absolutely true! These games will make you a better GM!
Out now, a very special Unconventional GMs one-shot #TTRPG #ActualPlay - come explore the Stinking Forest in @chaosium.bsky.social #13thAge #Glorantha with @jonathantweet.bsky.social , recorded LIVE at @the-kraken.bsky.social !

Yes, and 13G's presentation of the setting is also much easier to grasp.
(And the system, though. RQG/BRP is fiddly as anything)
My take on the RQ stuff is that the complexity is the point. Glorantha could still do with an exciting <32 page overview, but in the meantime theres loads of adventures on Jonstown that'll get you the vibe. And I don't expect Chaosium to stop publishing encyclopeidas when they sell so well.
Seeing some noise that @chaosium.bsky.social Runequest is hard to get into, and I'm once again reminding you that they still publish a much easier entry point to Glorantha, #13thAge Glorantha. And it's got rules for Heroquesting.
(Oh and obvious point, but getting Stars & Wishes feedback at the end of each session would help you tweak & improve)
Personalisation of PCs (not names, but bonds, relationships and hooks) is a better way to get creative engagement with characters. (2/2)
Chargen is overrated. The experienced players would be fine with well-designed pregens, cater to the new folks instead of asking them to play a separate unrelated game before the actual game. (1/2)
As a teaser, here's the last time we did something like this - watch @robindlaws.bsky.social play his own @atlasgames.bsky.social Feng Shui 2 in an all-action #TTRPG #ActualPlay
