"The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little."

Worker spraying herbicides on the side of the road next to a strawberry field. He is wearing a fluorescent vest, so passing cars will see him. However, he was not provided with a protective suit or mask to safeguard him from the chemicals he is spraying.

Marcela, a mother of 3, shared this video from the tangerine harvest in Sanger CA. She earns $55 for each 1,000 lb crate she harvests. She fills 2 crates in her 7 hr work day. She worries about meeting expenses, including gas she uses in her 80-mile round-trip drive. #WeFeedYou

That feeling when a struggling student finally masters a concept you've been teaching for weeks.

No organization system can replace that professional satisfaction.

Today is #InternationalWomensDay. Let's hear it for farm workers like Karina, a Kern County farm worker mother, who are harvesting the oranges many of us will enjoy with our weekend breakfast. #WeFeedYou

One of these days we're gonna have to reckon with the fact that "money that I spend which does not directly benefit me is a waste" is a popular sentiment.

I think we should state plainly that this is selfish on its face.

And stupid when you have awareness which extends beyond your nose.

A reminder that fiction — books, film, games, what have you — is always political. The willful absence of “politics” in any work is itself a political choice and a political act. Who gets to tell (and sell) stories is political. It might be an undercurrent — covert, not overt. But it’s there.

A fellow dog friend in complex, who I only casually know, left this card my door after she saw me headed out for final appt for Cora. Good reminder that kindness & community is everything. 💙

I do think it’s super important right now and in the foreseeable future to really value moments of joy and to be intentional about making as many of them as you can
