BURMA'S BREAKING POINTS: Evolution in Mon State: March 25th 9 AM: the next instalment will be on Mon State. Mon State has become a strategic corridor where civilians are squeezed by overlapping systems of extortion, displacement, and forced recruitment. Armed actors and junta authorities extract money at checkpoints, impose illegal taxes on trade and transport, and control key roads and coastal routes, forcing families, traders, and migrant workers to pay simply to move, work, or avoid harassment. At the same time, junta-enforced conscription and recruitment by armed groups push people to flee their homes, while growing smuggling, forced labor, and other abusive economies along transport corridors erode livelihoods and drive many into debt and repeated displacement.
