It gets worse: No 10 also tried to get Matthew Doyle - a close friend of Mandelson - a job working for him in DC.
Remember - Doyle was asked by PM to investigate Mandelson's responses about links to Jeffrey Epstein & concluded he was "satisfied".
A *clear* conflict of interests.
Very happy dipping my toe back in the union world - I drilled down into what today’s strike action was actually about
Economics can either enable the slide toward fascism, or defend affordability, dignity, and democracy.
I wrote ANTI-FASCIST ECONOMICS with my baby by my side—a constant reminder that the future should be livable for all.
Out in October with Random House.
Telegraph newspaper editorial on Mandelson's appointment in December 2024 versus editorial today
The biggest, deepest, most in-depth guide to the London borough elections you will find. @lewisbaston.bsky.social and I have gone ward-by-ward. It is a journey through the whole of the city: londondecides.lowickhedry.com #london
Great piece by @daisychristo.bsky.social debunking the idea that England's more rigorous school curriculum and assessment caused the decline in mental health.
TL:DR: Scotland + Wales have parallel declines - despite implementing opposite school policies.

New Renewal just dropped! Some fantastic stuff in this issue, including essays from Jane Gingrich, Jon Cruddas, Hilary Cottam, @ewangibbs.bsky.social, @joshwesterling.bsky.social, @abbyabhaya.bsky.social, and @benjthomas.bsky.social
Thanks Patrick! I'm a huge fan of your writing, so this means a lot to hear.
FREE TO READ: @ewangibbs.bsky.social reports from Scotland's 'just transition'. Oil and gas jobs are disappearing, and renewables have yet to deliver on jobs and investment. He cautions that failure risks fuelling far-right resentment.

Our journal is unambiguously social democratic in outlook, but we publish a wide spectrum of political perspectives within that broad space, and from contributors who range from active politicians, to established academics, to younger think tankers and commentators
I had little involvement in this issue (all credit goes to @lisebutler.bsky.social, @stevenklein.bsky.social, & @fhpitts.bsky.social), but as ever I'm really proud of the calibre of the essays we've published, as well as of the intellectual pluralism that they represent

Classic. So as a good Menshevik the correct choice would have been PP-DB right?
Were they good social democrats or were they like the Romanians?
I don't think I've ever read a sentence as unappealing as "Jim Caviezel is Jair Bolsonaro."
FDR and the New Deal kickstarted the greatest period of economic expansion in American and possibly world history
IDK either way, but you can certainly see how, in my line of work, universities *want* this to proceed: tenured professors-->adjuncts and grad students-->old taped lectures+AI content+sets of tasks that "live" on systems like canvas, through which the non-unionized teacher acts as a docent
literally every day my wife or I go outside with our daughter people go out of their way to be friendly, offer aid or a kind word, no matter where we've traveled. it's nice to remember that hostility as default mode of interaction is not destiny, much as it benefits some to pretend it is
The problem with centrist Dems is that they don't understand the basis for their own power, and try to kill it.
It's a war of the oligarchs against the professional administrative class, the only class capable and willing to resist them.
let's make a cultural value judgment: palantir are a bunch of execrable fascist shitheads and their ideas go against the basis of every civilized country on earth, from which they should be extirpated like the intellectual cancer they are
Mamdani is framing his still-fresh tenure not only as a measure of his ability to govern but as a sign that the ideology of democratic socialism can work in practice, not just in theory.

This is incredibly common in the US, I know several Americans who aren’t on speaking terms with their parents, and Reddit is full of r/QAnonCasualties and r/FoxBrain type communities. It’s a shame, but an inevitable one given the poisoned information environment, that we’re importing this here.
Tweet from Elon Musk: "*Soros Organization has taken over Hungary"
Antisemitism is structurally necessary for Elon Musk's politics, because he wants to brand himself as the insurgent populist fighting the elite, but as the world's wealthiest person, he needs a definition of "elite" that is not strictly rooted in wealth or corporate ownership.
The fact that Mamdani just seems like a cheerful normal guy who's policies are things like "we're going to tax second homes to fund pothole repairs" or whatever and yet this generates panicked responses like "This is basically Stalin's great purge turned up to eleven" is... telling. It tells things.
Politicians make a category error when it comes to car crime. They are far too light on it for fear of the "war on the motorist" when motorists hateeeeeeeeeeeeeee dodgy drivers
Manchesterism! What is it, what isn’t it? My piece for @thehousemag.bsky.social, featuring a great picture of Andy Burnham riding a bee.

Me, reading these posts: "This is genuinely quite mad... Oh, there's the antisemitism, yep, right on schedule, and... wait what the actual fuck?"
by no means the main take to be had here (indeed takes 1 to 25 should be along the lines of "fucking hell Keir"), but worth noting just how quickly moral rot can spread - all of this obviously happened because Trump won and the government needed someone morally rotten to step in to help them
