Kudos to this study team using LLMs to write ED handoffs. Gen AI notes scored better on automated measures, but a bit lower on physician review. Zero critical safety issues, but a few issues with logic/completeness. Smart new framework for safety eval. #EMedSky

It’s a a bit of an outdated term, but it is a proper medical term. Whether it’s accurate here is a separate issue. Here’s DeBakey writing about it: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/7147190/

When this preschooler showed up for a race (on his pedal-less strider bike) at the local BMX park, his family discovered that he was the only one in his age group to attend.

Interesting result…
>Importantly, despite mortality benefit for the entire patient population studied, the authors found no effect of the intervention on mortality for patients with an alert, raising the possibility that the intervention was exerting broader effects on care patterns

I’ve used it sporadically over the years. It seems to work a solid “meh.” It does a bit but isn’t saving the day. Honestly once I learned that you can give up to 80-100mg of IV maxuran, Ive almost never had to use anything other than maxuran and NSAIDs for about 10 years now.
Between 1997 and 2022, splash pads across the country were linked to at least 60 outbreaks, with the largest sickening over 2,000 water frolickers in one go.
Antipsychotics are used to treat *agitation* in dementia when non-pharmacological attempts don’t work and there are concerns the patient may hurt themselves or someone else. This is standard practice supported by both Canadian and international guidelines. Ex: ccsmh.ca/wp-content/u...
There’s nothing about daily fines, or restricting students from moving out of province. The bill is here: m.assnat.qc.ca/Media/Proces...
The actual text of this tabled bill is extremely different than what is suggested in this article. It basically establishes fines for MDs who bill for publicly covered services within the first 5y of practice, and allows the government to create a RoS agreement with students.
Happy Friday!
Just going to leave this here and hopefully put a smile on one or two faces 😀

NYU gave their staff access to HIPAA-secure ChatGPT last year. It's a pretty great paper looking at real-world usage of GenAI. If you run the numbers, you could arguably give healthcare users access for like $20 a year, which seems kind of mind-blowing to me.

Interesting. Definitely had been taught to avoid cephalexin in pyelo. Our lab still comments on urine cultures that it’s not appropriate to use to treat pyelo. #medsky #emedsky
A photograph looking down on a larval insect. You can see a rounded head at the top and the fluffy tapered bottom. Between these are six segments, alternating white and black. There are hairs coming off of the six black segments, but not the shiny white segments between them.
