I think we need to shift from an all-encompassing fear of movement model towards a broader avoidance model, driven by a range of underlying factors.
One of those is risk aversion, the risk of having another awful experience, the expectation of pain itself.

Pretty much sums up how musculoskeletal clinicians should view their role in managing patients with painful lumbar radiculopathy.
Even when patients get injections or attend for surgical opinions, this still holds true.
I wonder how much this mindset applies to other MSK conditions 🤔

Poignant comment from the clinic:
"I know my problem isn't life-threatening, but it has been life-changing."
A concept worth savouring before we rush into our explainers.
Just under two weeks to go!

Let’s get busy with those reflex hammers 🔨 💪
'Nice' paper highlighting some criticism and recommendations on the 2016 NICE low back pain guidelines.
'Sciatica' is in the title, but there’s no substantial guidance on it - or on LSS, for that matter. Maybe it’s time to take it out and produce separate guidance.

Developing a picture show around mechanisms without any real reference has been hell-ish 🥴
