An homage to Trixie Friganza, perhaps?
She was a vaudeville star and a prominent New York suffragist who was the inspiration for "Take Me Out to The Ball Game," which is about a girl named Katie Casey who told her beau she wouldn't go out with him unless it was to see a baseball game!

They've kind of got that market cornered ❤️

Little sis wearing a Jake Mangum jersey, so Mangum throws big bro a baseball for her - and bro GIVES IT TO LITTLE SIS. Doesn't keep it for himself, no asshole adult steals it out of his glove, people around them are just happy to feel the happy that comes from baseball and a little sweetness.
A plate of steaming... shoe for their suppers is how we show our troops how much we respect them.
We have endless supplies of money to buy, sell, and operate lethal weapons of war, but not enough to feed the wielders of those weapons.
A still image from "The Gold Rush" showing Charlie Chaplin staring balefully at the sole of his shoe steaming on a plate in front of him. The sole has nails sticking up from it as Chaplin prepares to start eating to ward off the starvation facing him from being snowed in during an Alaskan blizzard. One of the most famous silent film sequences of all time.
He sold his soul to the Devil at a Mississippi crossroads in return for a gift the likes of which we'll never hear again. So yes, I'm listening

Early baseball was different. 347 total steals by the 1911 New York Giants? That same year, my idol Christy Mathewson pitched 307 innings for the speedy Giants, winding up with a 1.99 ERA and a 26-13 win-loss record. TWENTY-SIX AND THIRTEEN. Legendary!
So lovely and calming. And still worth fighting for.
An image of a quotation by Roberto Clemente that says: "If you have an opportunity to accomplish something that will make things better for someone coming behind you, and you don't do that, you are wasting your time on this earth."
Jackie Robinson didn't say this, Roberto Clemente did. (I have a sneaking suspicion Jackie would have endorsed his message.)
"I owe more to Canadians than they'll ever know. In my baseball career, they were the first to make me feel my natural self."

If taxing the rich means driving them out of the city, they can always retreat to their Hamptons estates & complain from there about how much helicopter fuel costs
Meanwhile, our mayor is living up to the wildly socialist, radical promises he made while campaigning, and New Yorkers are here for it
On Jackie Robinson Day, and on the 79th anniversary of Robinson breaking MLB’s colour barrier, I'm proud to know that we, as Canadians, helped him alter the history of his sport and inspire social change.
I wrote about it:

There's a loud ring of truth to how Ms. Drewes speaks of her interactions with Swalwell. They met a few times, he was charming & connected, he used his status to sweet-talk her into a situation where he could drug and disable, then rape her.
This is a TECHNIQUE, not a "mistake," and it's pure evil.
Absolutely, Ghost!
Every time, suegaone. Every. Time. But we women have spines of steel, and Jen can handle herself.
That's what unions do, gamercat; they provide protections for ALL their members, not just some. You're right, it's not easy to release a major league umpire for cause, so sending Bucknor off into the sunset probably wont happen anytime soon. But some genuinely good ones are coming up behind him.
No, but your comment is, Robot. LMAO!
That's not the case anymore, memain, and thank goodness. Opportunities for girls to play baseball with and against other girls are proliferating across the globe; in other countries, women's baseball is massively popular, and draws healthy crowds. USA has a way to go to catch up, but it's happening.
The fight is not over, Palma. It never is. Keep up the good work, and thank you!
Oh thank goddess, after reading about what Dan Serafini did to his parents-in-law and seeing way too many episodes of Forensic Files, my heart lurched when I read "took over his father's investment... firm." So nice to learn that not every scion of a wealthy family turns out to be a lowlife killer
John saved a woman's life by keeping her from jumping off the Roberto Clemente Bridge in Pittsburgh on his way to the ballpark one evening. A wonderful human being, and a great partner on the diamond too. www.cnn.com/2017/06/30/h...
and this is me with John Tumpane, who's working second base in Baltimore tonight. I umpired with John decades ago right at the beginning of HIS pro umpiring career and never forgot how good he was. Ran into him inJanuary, and much to my surprise, he remembered me too!
This is me on the right, with Jen - I hired her to work a Mets spring training game with me in 2016, right after she graduated from umpire school. Her talent was obvious even at that nascent stage of her pro career.
Some of us are happy for the information, E. I'm watching the game right now because of Andy Kostka's post.
That doesn't bother me much; she just needs to stay healthy, nose to the grindstone. What DOES bother me is mlb assigning her to third base for the 3-game series so she avoids working the plate. What is mlb saving her for? Plate work is the umpire's bread-&-butter, she shouldn't be kept away from it
Hi, Ryan
History is littered with the names of Triple AAA umps who filled in for the major leaguers when they took their 6-week vacations or became injured, but were never offered a full-time post. It'll be 2 or 3 years at least before Jen is offered a full-time contract, but that's SOP for mlb.
