For me, the description works when a non-indie game tries to do something novel with a mainstream gameplay style and often attempts to tell a deeper story (that usually isn't good). That gen had many devs try to be more serious with story and still allowed for some risks that led to genre twists.

to me, some genres come with a natural hour count and old boomer shooters like this can't usually keep it up for more than five or so hours

it's a shame this game is three times that!

Pragmata Is Capcom's Best New Series in Over a Decade (Review) Despite a lengthy development cycle, Pragmata is a commendable game with wonderfully layered combat mechanics.

Pragmata struck me as a game Capcom would have published in like 2012 if it hadn't been lost in the woods. And I loved it for that.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: scene from the movie Aliens; Ripley is in a mech suit and delivers her iconic line: “get away from her, you bitch!” Panel 2: the xenomorph queen lunges at Ripley in the robotic suit and they engage in a fight. Panel 3: later, the xenomorph queen is standing in the shower, mid wash. She says, “‘it takes one to know one, honey.’ That’s what I should have said.”

Mouse: P.I. For Hire Has Cheesy Puns, Slick Rubber-Hose Animation, and Way Too Long of a Campaign (Review) Mouse: P.I. For Hire's ability to splice in 1920s animation techniques into a boomer shooter is impressive, but the game is far too long.

this game with all its floppy guns is sometimes cool but the length annoyed the hell out of me

I mentioned it in my review, but I kept thinking about Dark Void and Pragmata and how well they symbolize Capcom before and after RE7. One is a bland Gears clone nobody remembers, and the other takes the shooter genre in a novel direction so it feels new and interesting.

let's be clear about what's happening: donald trump and benjamin netanyahu, whose countries have been committing genocide in gaza since 2023, unilaterally started a war with iran, and are now threatening genocide there.

Mr. X appears in Resident Evil: Requiem during the Raccoon City chapter to provide a, nostalgic, high-stakes stalking, stalker, stalkers, stalked, stalking, stalking!, and challenging, challenge, challenges, challenged, challenging! gameplay experience for Leon Kennedy. His inclusion serves as a callback, callbacks, calledback, callingback, callback! to the 1998 incident and acts as a concluding, conclude, concluded, concludes, conclusion!, for the character's storyline, featuring a relentless, relentlessly, relentless! chase mechanic.

Darwin's Paradox Review: A Cute, Googly-Eyed Octopus Isn't Enough to Save This Bland Puzzle Platformer Darwin's Paradox has a charming aesthetic and visual style, but its gameplay is shallow and often frustrating.

Thanks for reading! I kept trying to find something to latch onto but couldn't. At least the game was short.

I had the same realization. I stuffed my memory card and it was quickly apparent that it would take me so long to dig through this cool library (I never had a DS either).
