Some days I scroll until I think, "I hate these guys." Then I nope out.

Other days I scroll until I think, "What a moron."

Today was the latter of those days.

I'm deep clearing my Silent Generation parents' closets, and have found at least one passbook. Antique!

I would love it if those of you who do not have library cards will apply for one at your local branch during #NationalLibraryWeek. Then let me know about it. 😇

Reading Room: A Catalog of New York City's Branch Libraries - Urban Omnibus

Since it's #NationalLibraryWeek, I am going to share a cool library thing every day.

Today, I am sharing "Reading Room" a project by Elizabeth Felicella, a photographer, who passed away way too early last year at 58 years old.

When my sister's kids started calling people douchebags, she schooled them on what a douche bag actually is...I don't think they use that term around her any more, and I've certainly never heard it from them.

To that last repost: we've seen AI p*rn in our kids' HS; the kids are shook. Alleged perpetrators are back in school.

There is no active, operational, model of restorative justice to unravel the damage they boys have done. Adults are culpable all the way down, yet it can't be "boys will be boys."

Tossing teenagers in prison because the government failed to regulate corporate America's faulty and dangerous products is not a new practice, but we don't have to keep expanding it.

Green "poison" book cake

Edible Books!

I don't have any real books to share today, so here is the glorious lineup of faux-folios from April 1! Most photos were by Ben Greer, and featured on @newberrylibrary.bsky.social instagram. First up, The Poison Princess, by Conservation, a Swedish Princess cake with a dire twist! 1/?

Dollars to doughnuts, if police have been to their house prior to the murder, the police report documents that they were called to the house after an "argument."

When matters of abuse and harassment are classified as civil matters, police can write it off as "not our job."

So it's not really surprising to see yet another guy talking about how relaxing the pandemic was for him.

This is actually a great demonstration of how the mental load on woman can 1) extend far beyond being a mother, and 2) be completely invisible to the men around them.

Not sure why when we discuss early COVID the median person has to be childless, has no family in LTC, doesn't work an essential job, and didn't deal with unexpected illnesses/injuries in the early 2020s.

All these things are really fucking stressful and impacted a LOT of people during that time.

The victims ranged in age from 1 to 14, according to Cpl. Chris Bordelon of the Shreveport Police Department, who spoke at a news conference.

He said the shooting appeared to be domestic in nature.

God I wish we were rid of the "domestic" euphemism, which softens a brutal type of violence and makes it sound like a private affair. "Man shoots eight children, all family members, at three locations across Shreveport."

Of course the tree is a dare for local children. Can you walk it to the end and throw a stone into the pool? The fear comes not from falling off as such, but the fear of falling off into waters that are home to Stay Belows. After all, they are so hungry in mating season. – Joanna Vickers, 1982 #VOH

From what I've seen in our family, as well as stories I'm hearing from friends in our community, it is not a good time to be in a rehab or skilled nursing facility.

If you kill your wife, you don't get to be a husband anymore Some lessons from the media coverage of Dr. Cerina Fairfax and Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer's murders.

My latest.

I’ve been watching the media coverage of the murders of Dr. Cerina Fairfax and Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer.

One way media can fight back against male violence:

If you kill your wife, you don’t get to be called a “husband” any more.

You’re her killer.

New York City has like 3 alleys. There's that one in Chinatown, that one in the LES, and the one near the REI that's near the library. You have seen each of them like seventeen thousand times on various iterations of Law and Order.

you are not a violent abuser BECAUSE you have mental health issues. You can be a violent abuser who is ALSO mentally ill. The mental illness is not the cause of your domestic violence.
