Today, Virginia is the only U.S. state where someone convicted of any felony loses their right to vote for life, unless it is personally restored by the governor.
Lawmakers this year advanced a constitutional amendment to repeal that rule.
When I had a newborn, I was like…this won‘t be so hard. I can still be me. Having a toddler has humbled me
If there’s two of you, it’s easier. But wrangling a toddler solo is a challenge at times. She can‘t walk a whole mile without demanding to be carried for most of it but will be opposed to a stroller
As a toddler parent, I have to hold back when parents of babies are like “it’s easy to take kids places!” Yes it was easier to take my kid places too when they weren’t so heavy and capable of wrestling like a small alligator 😆
image of a white brick wall overlaid with text reading: for a story at The Guardian, I'm looking to speak to 1-2 people who have had their community/ political organizing work impacted by being expected or forced to organize with someone who assaulted or harassed them, and that staying silent was "for the good of the movement" I know this is an extremely common story, but also one people can't always share with their name or face: anonymity or pseudonyms will be provided. I am trained in trauma-informed strategies in working with survivors, am a survivor myself, and take digital hygiene and sources' security extremely seriously. Please reach out over signal @ lex_mcmenamin.68 . I'll take this down when I have enough folks. Thank you.

for a story at the Guardian, I'm interviewing folks who were asked to keep working with someone after sexual assault or harassment or relationship abuse, and told to stay silent "for the good of the movement" (more info in pic with alt text).

I read 924 pages during #TransRightsReadathon and raised $425 for @transjournalists.org for my 1000/1000 goal.
Anyone want to help me close that funding gap? The Trans Journalists Association promotes accurate, nuanced coverage of trans people in the news.

it's a major line in the sand for progressives looking to tie data center opposition w AI safety

My kid is going through a yogurt obsession right now. I'm begging them every day. Please eat something else. This is not an advice-seeking post! I just really appreciated that and so many other things about the movie
It was so smart of If I Had Legs I'd Kick You to choose to center a struggle to get your child to eat because most parents struggle with picky eating of some kind and it's soooo hard
You'd probably see more women in senior reporting roles and editor roles if the career advancement path for journalism ever considered how best to keep parents in journalism, but of course this is an issue that is pervasive in every industry
There are so many of us as who have kids and are forced by lack of childcare to scale back our work and need to get back into full-time journalism roles and a fellowship is not a magic bullet but I think it is useful in this context
