To be clear, I do believe that TOS was revolutionary in many ways. One can't discount the effect that Uhura, Sulu, M'Benga, etc had on people in the audience watching and seeing themselves represented. But racists were able to see what they wanted. From DS9 on, diversity kept growing into Nu Trek
