We’re proud to share that Sara Hallin, our Professor of Soil Microbiology, has been elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences 🌿🔬 Her research on soil microbes, nitrogen cycling and nitrous oxide advances knowledge on greenhouse gases and sustainable land use.
🌱 New research from SLU shows that more diverse crop rotations can reduce nitrogen losses without lowering yields. When losses are measured per unit of harvest, diversity pays off — for the climate, the environment, and farmers’ economy.

Staff and students across all campuses at SLU celebrated a record-breaking milestone 🎉
After years of successful external funding, we’re proud to mark our strongest result to date.
Nils Högberg, Head of Department, opened the celebration and welcomed everyone.

The soil in the reserve is unusually calcareous and therefore provides a valuable environment for rare plants and animals. Old and fallen trees host a wide range of fungi, lichens, and insects that find it difficult to survive in modern production forests
This Amanita muscaria fruits and grows in symbiosis with this small pine and with very little soil.
The mycelium of this Hydnellum forms a continuous tissue that makes it possible to identify the size of the individual, and if you step on it during the dry season, it can even change the sound of your footsteps

Threats from fungal diseases that attack pine and spruce are growing with climate change. But why are some trees more severely affected than others? Matilda Stein Åslund has investigated this in her thesis to help preserve our forests in the ongoing climate change.
