Oh got it! Thanks for the clarification.
I love this Octopus. That's the kinda thing I was imagining... a local (to get started) way of signalizing friendliness ๐งก
I was crossing two marked crosswalks and two people driving cars completely ignored me. One of them ignored a STOP sign.
If I am distracted, I don't kill someone by walking. On other hand, they could have killed me in a second. How is that a fair comparison?
Oh, I don't think it's weird at all. That is cute. It's because we're really close to each other bsky.app/profile/stef...
Oh no, don't crash! I usually just smile :D
Oh yes, good point. Safety first, of course! I just smile a bit, even if it's just to myself for seeing more cyclists :D
I was thinking it would be nice to try to signal that a cyclist welcomes interaction... bsky.app/profile/stef...
Yeah, fair enough. I like the helmet analogy!
I want do more of it but be more at peace knowing that the person likes to do it as well: bsky.app/profile/stef...
Ha, great! I sometimes get a nod back from people.
I shared more about this here bsky.app/profile/stef... and I am happy I am not the only one :)
Awesome, I am happy to hear I am not the only one :)

Something like a bell that you attach to your bike. That way, you would feel more comfortable initiating the interaction by knowing that the person also welcomes it ๐ค๐ฉโ๐ฌ
So I realized that's why I feel so inclined to say hi to cyclists. I was only thinking about pedestrians when I thought of how wide streets kill connection.
I started thinking that it would be nice to have something on your bike that signals to others that you welcome smiling/waving (when safe).
This was inspired by reading Kat Vello's newsletter about " Street design that fosters friendship".
"Narrow streets make walking more cozy. And they make it easier to recognize the faces of other walkers and cyclists, which facilitates familiarity and conversation."
(continue...)
I am waiting on seeing the effects of increased burnout, and other psychological effects of being told that your skills don't matter and that you can't say a single thing about a tool that is being forced onto people without proof that it's actually a good thing.
Hey #yycbike is it just me or does someone else feel like waving to other people biking in Calgary?
Maybe it's just me, but I always smile a bit when I see people cycling and would like to know your opinion :)
Thanks @bikecalgary.bsky.social for sharing this timely Active Transportation Fund issue. I have used the template to contact my MP.

I have a 5-year journal and I looked back on last years and found a note that it was my first @criticalmassyyc.bsky.social A friend of mine went for the first time yesterday and she took pictures of me. She also let @thd.codes and I try their tandem bike for the first time ๐งก

Just watched it ๐ thanks for speaking up, it was a great refresher of how living close to things is great. I wish more people had that opportunity :3
yeah :( hopefully a new provider will step up. I was looking forward to many bike rides in banff this year
help.flixbus.com/s/article/PS...
adding a bike as "excess baggage" costs between 19.99 - 60 :( it was 5 bucks to bring them on the on it bus. sad, will have to rethink my plans on cycling on Banff from now on

arghhhh i was afraid this was going to happen. I couldn't find their dates for this year and hoped it was just a delay :( they were really great with bringing bikes. sad.
This Friday we will have a fire pit going at Pearce Estates Park at the end of our ride! This will be the last time we meet at containR. Starting in April, we will be meeting in Riley Park (not far from containR). More deets to come! Bring a friend! Our winter rides have been so fun โ๏ธ๐ฒโจ #yycbike
Calgary right now regarding repealing the blanket rezoning
Calgary city council is being asked to approve 4 new communities on the city's outskirts, with 5 more applications on the way in the coming months. I dug into it for the new Sprawlcast. A good listen/read for a snowy Saturday. #yyccc www.sprawlcalgary.com/calgary-subu...
