I loved that book!
I was also fascinated by the huge group of characters who were all individuals, well drawn, and nuanced. I definitely have to read this one again and take some notes. (I was too distracted by having an excellent reading experience to pay proper attention to craft.)

A drawing, by Ursula K. Le Guin, of a loafed-up black cat as seen from behind. The cat's tail curls around the podcast title IN YOUR SPARE TIME. Ursula K. Le Guin's name is at the top of the image, which has a teal background.

You don’t know who is finding meaning in your stories and novels.
You don’t know who your words are helping though dark times.
A vertical collage of the 28 guests who appeared on Eating the Fantastic during 2025, all across the table from me with food between us. The collage has them in mostly chronological order, save for the four which appear larger to have them all fit into a five-column, eight-row space. The following list is alphabetical: Kemi Ashing-Giwa, Richard Butner, Curtis C. Chen, Eric Choi, Lara Elena Donnelly, Craig Laurence Gidney, Carolyn Ives Gilman, Robert Greenberger, George Gene Gustines, Larry Hama, Jack C. Harris, Karen Heuler, Alaya Dawn Johnson, Naomi Kritzer, Mur Lafferty, Jarrett Melendez, Adeena Mignogna, Samantha Mills, Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Aimee Ogden, Tim Paggi, John Picacio, Shannon Robinson, Benjamin Rosenbaum, David Simmons, Natalia Theodoridou, Martha Thomases, and Eugenia Triantafyllou.
The Hugo Awards nominating period closes tomorrow, and as you complete your ballot, I hope you'll consider Eating the Fantastic in the category of Best Fancast. To refresh your memory, here's where you can sample all 28 of the podcast's 2025 episodes. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...
Hahaha, this seems like just the sort of moss that would sidle into one's personal space and then politely start speaking telepathically.
Sounds like the moss @bethgoder.bsky.social was writing about in this delightfully alluring story...

This is so sweet of you. Thank you for adding me to your list. 🥰
You are on my list of inspiring writers, too! Reading your stories is one of the reasons I wanted to start reading/writing horror.

I didn't write a whole lot last year, but I did work on some awesome projects! Behold!
In case you're doing some last minute reading for the Nebula awards, I'll gently place my weird spider story here.
This made it on the Locus Recommended Reading List and it will be reprinted in Podcastle soon. It's a story that's close to my heart.

Just note that I'm sadly no longer submitting to Analog because of the many documented issues with the publisher. (This novella came out before the new publisher took over.)
Oh my goodness, there I was making notes about stuff I want to read from the Locus Recommended Reading List when I came across two of my stories!
"Arachnomorphosis," my spider story in Strange Horizons.
"Murder on the Eris Express," my novella in Analog.
Mind blown! 🤯

'Miles To Go Before I Sleep' by @bethgoder.bsky.social was such a powerful, surreal story with very real emotions, that I've chosen it along with two other stories for the category Most Emotional Short Story, 2025.

This is so kind. Thank you so much! ❤️
I'm so thrilled to have one of my stories make this list!
