It is terrifying to think how many low-margin industries heavily run by independent small companies are going to get badly damaged or destroyed by the tariffs. I've seen a lot of talk about local game stores and I'm sure there are a ton of industries outside my bubble about to take a beating.

Seeing NaNoWriMo is officially dead makes me sad, even if it had to happen.

I got back into writing because of that site and its community. I'm still not published but I've written a lot of novels and partial novels because of NaNo (not all done during Nov). But the current org failed it miserably.

Modern magic unlocks Merlin's medieval secrets Fragments of a rare Merlin manuscript from the 1200s discovered and digitised in a ground-breaking three-year project at Cambridge University Library.

A discovery of an old text about Merlin from the 1300s, need to find the brain power to fully read it but the fact the paper was reused for something else at one point is insane.

Something magical about anticipation. Honestly I don't get excited for releases a ton anymore, but the rerelease of Xenoblade X DE tomorrow has me really pumped. Xenoblade holds a special place in my heart and I've wanted to replay for a while without getting out my WiiU.

I'm so glad people remember Shogo. It was a silly, fun game with awful yet great jokes and such a fantastic sense of scale. We need more games like it.

And at least with Wikipedia you could use it to chase down primary sources. Unless something changed (I don't use AI and haven't been keeping up with the various flavors) i don't get that with the current LLMs.

Sad day. Just saw the creators of Celeste cancelled their next game Earthblade. The fact they felt pressure to make something bigger and better makes it clear how it could impact their creativity. I hope they can get back to what brought them joy because clearly it worked with Celeste.

I'll never understand why games feel the need to add a random stealth section somewhere in the game. If I wanted stealth I would buy a stealth game, not whatever game I did buy that only has the one (that I didn't know about).

Man. 1000xResist.

What a game. What an emotional ride. What heartbreak. What need.

The way it plays with visual perspective and camera angles and language, the way it uses <spoilers> to explore topics of self. At some point I should play it again, but for now I need to digest it.

Man, 1000xResist starts off incredibly strong. So curious where it is going but I also don't want to binge it and risk rushing through.

Been working on a zero draft of a novel idea in Google Docs and I forgot how much I hate its grammar checker, double so when writing Fantasy. Anytime I mention Gods it assumes I mean the Christian one and makes related grammatical corrections.

Yup if you haven't read up on the issue it is a totally fair question to ask. I'm still thankful I happened to get a 12th gen in my laptop, and now when I get my next machine I know to go AMD barring a MAJOR proof of trustablility in any new Intel CPUs

12th gen should be fine. The entire issue is the 13th and 14th gen CPUs were destroying themselves, and even computers that got the update suffer from existing damage. I have a 12th gen laptop and it is running great still.

Trying to get back to Youtube content (about godot, naturally), and decided to try a different style for my thumbnails using smudged version of the code behind the godot robot head. Curious how it'll do compared to my previous awful attempts at thumbnails.

Well this is the most horrifying news I've seen today, and will be hard to top. Ugh.

Though I'll probably take this utter mess of a draft and build an outline based off of that and all the things I've learned (I already found scenes I never would have come up during outlining) before I start a "real" draft, but with all the knowledge this Zero Draft is giving me.

It feels so nice.

And now without the pressure of thinking a single word of this version will be seen by anyone, I'm writing. I was doing ~1200 words most days before I realized I could do more. Added a second session and now I'm up over 2500 and learning this story in a way outline never taught me.

I'd forgotten how good it feels to sit down and write a story.

I've struggled, having ideas, starting to outline, then it falling apart in my hands. So when I found a new idea I changed direction. I got the basic characters and theme figured out and started to write a Zero Draft, discardable.

Evidence of oldest known alphabetic writing unearthed in ancient Syrian city Findings suggest alphabetic writing may be some 500 years older than other discoveries

So neat to see our understanding of the evolution/origin of written language change. Credit to hacker news as that's where I saw the link.

Well my mind broke. Local beloved indie bookstore Tattered Cover got bought by Barnes and Noble back in July and I missed it.

So many fond memories of going to their locations for book signings or just to peruse the shelves and bring something new home to read.

I just don't understand the appeal. On one side you have a young man who's a massive sack of garbage, on the other hand anyone who expected it to be a good fight is an idiot. What was the draw?

I keep refreshing the dotnet page hoping 9 non-RC will be available. Very interested in testing it out with all the perf improvements and some of the updates they made.

It makes me so sad NaNo has tanked due to gross issues (both gross incompetence and other forms). I'll forever be grateful for it helping inspire me to write more but the org is no longer the one that got me going again.

Funny part is with a good art style they won't even look that much worse if at all, they just won't have the same polygon counts and won't have to fight the uncanny valley anymore.

Out of curiosity did you get an early copy or did it come out in Canada before the US? Only copies I see for his new book are a third party seller on Amazon, and no ebook copies (gotta not use up even more space with all the physical books I already have).

Downside to messing with C++ is all the tools you end up messing with. Cmake is so confusing lol, though finally got Raylib linked into a windows project and running with a visible window.
