Teen killed, four hurt in suspected DUI crash in Novato A teen was killed and four others injured in a solo-vehicle crash in northern Novato on Saturday.

Another tragedy on the roads of Marin, with one teen killed and four more hurt in a solo crash.

But sure, let's spend an entirely legislative session in Sacramento arguing about e-bikes, shall we?

Cops patrolling Isla Vista, UCSB

Groups of cops patrolling Isla Vista at 9:00am. The USCB Deltopia party was cancelled, and presumably this is to ensure it doesn't happen. Don't love groups of cops patrolling student areas, especially when nothing is happening.

The drama has already started on next door. However, 70% of the city voted to upzone this for the Housing Element, so should be interesting to see how it unfolds....

This is one of my favorite fun facts. Also, we are now at 6,900 residents. People are up in arms about the traffic from the new 294 unit proposal. It will just get us back to where we were in 2020, population-wise.

I'd say it's both. It is feasible for houseboat zones there, but BCDC has said repeatedly that it's not going to happen without a change in state law. HCD should never have allowed it.

There's a lot of truth to this. Also, our popular culture is full of story lines of the half-assed man who wing it and end up on top. All the tropes of the the guy thumbing their nose at authority, using instinct instead of process and being right feeds into male overconfidence.

That's great - I haven't heard them speak up on anything in Marin, but maybe their involved at a statewide level?

We should do everything possible to get seniors out of their cars, even if it costs revenue. Kids shouldn't have to pay to take public transit to school. There are so many external benefits to get cars transporting kids to school off the roads.

Unfortuantely, in California, we basically don't have bus service, and there's a mentality that any service provided should be paid by the parents that use it. (I think the parents clogging up the streets should pay a drop-off fee, but that doesn't seem to be popular.)

It's not good for bodies but it's the only way to get the exposure needed to get in the top programs.

Travel team culture is the worst. Kids must either travel or drop out of team sports. Kids get injured at much higher rates from specialization & intense training at a young age. They weed even talented non- wealthy kids out of the system. Working class families cannot make the logistics work.

True and enraging, and this essay does such a good job describing the dynamics. sorayachemaly.substack.com/p/26-its-not...

I'm for free transit for kids and old folks. The kids can't drive, and we don't want the old folks to drive. Fares for kids creates a lot of friction for kids using transit.

How common is home inheritance in California? These areas see the highest rates High housing prices and low inventory mean that for many Californians, the surest way to get a home is to hope to inherit one.

25% of Marin home transfer are through inheritance. Daryl Fairweather, chief economist at Redfin calls this a caste system. Communities that build more have lower rates of inheritance. www.sfchronicle.com/realestate/a...

Philantrophist influence is a real problem - I'd rather our government funded libraries and schools, rather than begging oligarchs. But CZI isn't a good player - they stopped doing their justice and housing work, as it was too "woke". Now they do AI powered science and edtech.

We truly have the worst oligarchs. The last group at least gave us some nice libraries, musems and universities.

Does this look like "historic charm" to you? So much fear mongering in this piece - There are 10 proposed buildings. Several won't be built. Only 2 are taller than what's there now. Usually, the Chronicle pokes at Marin's insular ways. Not this time. www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

Probably. But still an interesting choice of who to target. Why not target on actual permitting? That's the goal.

Something's wrong with this process when you have mostly Central Valley on the list and none of Marin. All jurisdictions combined permitted less than 250 units, mostly ADUs.

Note that female coded fields (teaching, social work, occupational therapy) require graduate level work requiring yet more loans. Male coded professions (firefighting, police work) provide publicly funded, paid training instead.

Yikes! Antonio Vasquez, State Board of Equal. laments that Prop 19 has "ended intergenerational wealth transfer" in CA, because parents can only pass on one property tax-free to their kids now. Familiies that bought property on Venice Beach decades ago might now have to pay taxes. ???

The lack of media literacy is killing me. I have extremely smart, well-educated, successful friends who are convineced that the everything they read in the New York Times represents an accurrate grass roots reporting of American sentitment.

My daughter may be able to leave Marin, but she can't leave the housing crisis. (And love her layout of the story). dailynexus.com/2026-03-05/p...

For a little perspective, San Rafael only permitted 33 units last year. Marin County, as a whole, permitted less than 250. Yet, the Marin IJ chooses to weigh in against multiple projects in the pipeline.

Editorial: New housing is an economic must for Marin While Marin is one of the nation’s most affluent counties, its economy has not significantly grown and its labor force is shrinking.

The Marin IJ rightly identifies that new housing is a must in Marin. Unfortuanately, the editorial board also finds fault with many of the proposed housing projects for being "jarring" or "out of scale." www.marinij.com/2026/03/15/e...

Yay! San Rafael Vice Mayor Rachel Kertz is calling on city staff to create a real plan to get San Rafael's many proposed projects built. She says that it's time to own the RHNA numbers. She also says she doesn't want to hear anything on increasing inclusionary numbers because there is no housing.

Delaying the project, conducting studies and redesigning the project will only make it more expensive.
