WOW: A stunning new report in the WSJ reveals that military advisers intentionally excluded Donald Trump from the command room during the recent high-stakes operation to extract a downed U.S. airman in Iran, because they feared his erratic behavior could jeopardize the mission. 1/
Tech CEOs suggest AI job losses could be offset by Universal Basic Income, which they will violently oppose

Banning algorithmic pricing ought to be a no-brainer call for any government: people don’t like to be ripped off, surveilled, or treated differently from their peers.
Algorithm pricing does all three of those things.
This is plain nonsense. No one can profiteer if there is no market for profiteering at that price. That's Economics 101. "Profiteering: the act or activity of making an unreasonable profit on the sale of essential goods especially during times of emergency." www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/p...
Screenshot of a tweet by Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) noting that Stephen Miller nearly uses the phrase "final solution" when discussing Trump's Iran policy before catching himself. The embedded video shows Miller appearing on Fox's Hannity, with a chyron reading "Trump Projects Strength on the World Stage."
It sure sounds like what he nearly said.
Gas tax breaks are bandaids at best. Real solution is to help low & middle-income Cdns get off fossil fuels. Invest in solar, heat pumps, batteries, EVs. Tackle barriers, offer real incentives & fund w/ windfall tax on Big Oil (who are laughing all the way to the bank). Cleaner, cheaper, healthier.
A tax season reminder that Intuit TurboTax lobbied the government for years to block free public tax-filing.
Trump then terminated the free IRS Direct File program established under Biden, just a year after the tax prep giant gave his inauguration fund $1M.
Do you see how this works?
Carney & Poilievre’s response to the oil price shock is to suspend federal gas taxes. This is a terrible idea that only rewards the gangsters' gouging, fueling demand for the oil and gas companies’ excessive prices... 🧵
I'm getting the feeling that Mark Carney has little idea of what AI really is and how it works. www.youtube.com/watch?v=95KZ...
Thread detailing Mark Carney’s war on libraries, knowledge, and culture throughout so many parts of society.
His deep cuts to the public service are not in line with the vision he presents of a bold and more independent Canada.
"The consequences are already measurable: elementary students are losing cognitive skills, leading them to tank their exams." These tech bros sure hate children...I guess because they are so caught up in their fantasy of birthing a "child" machine. Solution: use books and ban screens in class.
Screenshot of a post from Donald Trump: A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!
The President of the United States is openly threatening to commit genocide against 90 million people.
Prime Minister Carney: if there was ever a moment to denounce this illegal war, withdraw your support, and call for accountability for war crimes—it’s now.
Me too. She has also suggested that critique of Israel is antisemitism.
I think these are two different posts from Trump. The "God" was Saturday, "Allah" on Sunday.
Reflections on the Meaning of Hate.
Excellent piece here by @charlieangus104.bsky.social, questioning who gets accused of antisemitism and who gets a pass (grounded in some excellent history, as always): open.substack.com/pub/charliea...
FFS when institutions of learning turn to AI slop we’re all doomed. Horrific by @royalbcmuseum.bsky.social
It still puzzles me that so many musicians participate in their own exploitation by subscribing to Spotify themselves, when there are many less unethical options out there.
Since @theonion.com hasn't posted this (from their e-mail newsletter) on Bluesky, I'm sharing it so that others may see it.
For those championing the AI industry's attempt to take over education, at least be aware of what you are signing up. For those who understand that education is necessary for democracy, consider signing: openletter.earth/open-letter-... @olivia.science
I forbid the use of AI tools in my classes. I've moved a lot of stuff to 'in class' hand-writing. But I've retained one major Research Paper. But, students must create an appendix outlining step-by-step how they found each peer-reviewed source. I should be able to replicate their searches. 1/n
Just what the world needs...more from the AI industry that consistently fails to understand the difference between science and fiction
I had to Google that word. :)
If you happen to have a screenshot of that interaction, I would love to see it. :)
Meta paid an effective fed tax rate of 3.5% on its latest tax bill — its lowest on record.
Mark Zuckerberg's net worth just hit $222 billion.
And Meta is pumping $65 million into elections this year to boost AI friendly candidates.
Now it's reportedly planning to lay off 15,000 workers.
Hello?
