Context: "11 U.S. states and dozens of city, county, and tribal governments ... are currently taking major oil and gas companies to court to hold them accountable for deceiving the public about the dangers of fossil fuels and make them pay for the resulting damages."

BREAKING: Federal Bill Would Put Big Oil Above the Law | Center for Climate Integrity Republicans Introduce Legislation to Give Fossil Fuel Companies Immunity from Any Laws or Lawsuits Seeking to Hold them Accountable for their Role in the Climate Crisis

Republicans know they are about to lose the House and are trying to give Big Oil its holy grail: legal immunity from any futures actions that would hold the industry responsible for the climate crisis it knowingly caused and is making worse every day.

Sorry we sledgehammered a statue - but not sorry they have coldly murdered thousands of Palestinian children.

The outrage over the Jesus statue in Lebanon must make Jesus turn in his empty grave. Jesus himself said what you do "to the least of these" is what matters, ie the millions of displaced, murdered, and injured Lebanese civiliand. This is the idolatry he abhorred.

Host -- "Is it true that the first thing Mr. Carney said to you was that he's more conservative than you are?"

Doug Ford -- "Yeah."

You think the political left is shutting down speech (I'm looking at you CBC and Ric Esther Bienstock)? Yes, I am aware of some cases of out-of-control political correctness, but there is actual full-blown academic censorship & book burning in parts of North America that is mandated by governments.

This is how fascism and extralegal rule is normalized. We're not even hearing about it anymore.

I don't think we can expect a change like that to happen overnight just because the NDP has a new leader. Change takes time. A lot of progressive voters have still to wake up to the fact that Carney is a conservative who doesn't share their interests.

The Israeli Finance Minister demands the German Chancellor apologize for saying that Israel should not steal Palestinian land.

He cites Holocaust Remembrance Day while explaining why Israel will not "accept" such "instructions."

I did NOT expect this post to be regarding the Canadian budget.

(To contribute: this is 100% correct; if you truly want a prison system to be rehabilitative and reformatory, you cannot cut the most crucial pipeline to education and information. This harms those within and without the system.)

For a moment, I thought this was the umpteenth example of the malevolence characteristic of the current US administration.

Shame on you, Canada.

This thread explains how prison libraries are already run on a shoestring budget and all books are donated. Eliminating prison libraries is a crime.

Eliminating libraries in prisons is a disaster, completely shortsighted. Libraries are a lifeline for incarcerated people who want to learn and grow, and have few other options.

"Mr. Hegseth has also boasted about his efforts to scale back what he has called 'stupid rules of engagement.'

Oona Hathaway, a professor of international law at Yale Law School, said those rules 'were developed precisely to prevent this kind of civilian harm'. . ."

One way to grasp the eye-wateringly large amounts the Carney government is planning to spend on defence: it's equivalent to the entire annual value of Canadian oil and gas production. Okay, we don't want to be bullied. But we don't want to become a society organized around the military, either

Israel is implementing its Gaza strategy in Lebanon: turning ‘buffer zones’ into permanent borders Israel has stated it does not plan to leave Lebanon even if the current ‘war’ ends. If the Gaza model is any guide, Israel appears to be moving toward expanding its border into Lebanon.

READ: While the world watches Iran, Israel is quietly redrawing the map. Netanyahu has ordered the army to push 10 kilometers into southern Lebanon to create a "buffer zone." Israel's defense minister says they're not leaving when the war ends. mondoweiss.net/2026/04/isra...

As President Donald Trump’s unauthorized war on Iran with Israel entered into its second month, some students and faculty were looking around and wondering: When did Democrats start caring about war crimes? And what do they think happened to student protestors on their watch?

While killing dozens of people in Lebanon (MOPH says 112, civil defense counts 250+, until now), Israel still found time to kill another one of our colleagues in Gaza.

I've taught European history for thirty years. Americans have always asked me how the Holocaust was possible, how Germans could have enabled a madman reveling in mass murder to carry out his plans. Now we can see in real time how this is enabled; now we Americans have front-row seats.
