Front cover of “Teaching to Transgress” by bell hooks
Someone (me) took way too long to pull this one down from my dusty to-be-read pile. An incredibly accessible rad so I shouldn’t have let myself be put off: “Theory as Liberatory Practice” and “Language” stand out chapters for me that I will revisiting over and over again #booksky

I watched the “Take That” documentary on Netflix last night. I played one song this morning… and now my playlist algorithm has become a pure millennial dopamine hit… highly recommend if you need a music boost!

Its that time of year again when we will all be overwhelmed with Black Friday offers from multinationals with questionable ethos. Any definitive lists to support local? #Cork #Ireland #beatthetarriffs

You should try to get it published somewhere.
I had a friend tell me that O’Sullivans reasoning is sound because neurodivergent kids do well in school, but not the workplace… That wouldn’t be because schools work hard at being neuro-inclusive, and most workplaces are way behind.

Amanda Kirby on LinkedIn commenting on Suzanne O’Sullivan’s article in the BMJ: “This weeks reading in British Medical Journal highlights the excellent book by Dr Suzanne O’Sullivan - ‘ The Age of Diagnosis’ - it’s even worth reading and certainly reflecting on more than once !”
“If people show you who they are; believe them”
Prof Amanda Kirby over on LinkedIn referring to Suzanne O’Sullivan’s book “The age of diagnosis” as “excellent”.
If you need any references on the book search the author’s name on here, and decide for yourself if you think it’s “excellent”.

Imagine if instead of providing passenger ferry service we just made everyone own their own small boats. It would be chaos and totally unsafe on days like today. And obviously not everyone could afford one. Plus imagine the dock space required!
But that’s basically what we do with cars 🤣

That is uncanny! Also, what a gorgeous dog. I think there are certain dogs that are ready made children’s book characters… Definitely giving Eeyore vibes!

My mother in law always asked my partner to get Christmas presents from her for the kids: “You know what they want”
She died suddenly in December 2023. On Christmas Day we opened her last presents to the kids without her there. A strange but poignant moment.
Give future you a gift from past you.

This breaks my heart: Spanish bluebells (left) spreading out of gardens into the wild, now a common sight across Ireland.
Native bluebells (right) are so lovely, but will be pushed out.
Why are non-native species known to be invasive STILL being sold in garden centres?

He technically played the straight man in that sketch, with incredibly funny lines that he played straight. It was Ferrell’s sketch. I think it just adds to his repertoire that he could act so well in it. (SNL seems to have no problem with their regular cast members corpsing constantly)

Anyway, feel free to spend the day scheming away. #BadFriday is an inclusive holiday, that seems to appeal to the impish nature in all of us, and especially little kids. Remember there are no good ideas on Bad Friday, only bad ones and all are welcome! #SpeirGorm

A question no one knew they needed answered.
Unfortunately some research has emerged in the last few days that brings into question whether Pink Eye Pillow is physically feasible: www.upworthy.com/cats-butthol...

While there has been some great contenders: one of the favourites to emerge has been “Pink Eye Pillow”. This is where we get the dog (with her jaunty upward pointing tail) to go around sitting on the bed pillows of family members.

It’s more of an intellectual exercise, we won’t do the mean things. The last two weeks have been great craic at dinner, imagining all the bad things you could think up. One rule is you must “riff” on ideas, so build it up and add layers rather than tearing anything down. #Speirgorm #BadFriday

So it’s “Bad Friday” in our house: a new tradition a bit like the way Festivus is a holiday for the rest of us.
You have to think up bad things to do to those you love: Putting blackberry thorns in your frenemy’s bed, that kind of thing… so much joy for two little girls! #Speirgorm

How do you holiday when you don’t drive? For most, people it will be hopping on a flight to a place that has active or sustainable transport. We are really missing a beat when it comes to tourism without a car through lack of safe connections.

Mines still there: i quoted Freire at it and now it accepts that a Meta AI cannot be a force for good given it is programmed with Meta and Zuck’s values. Does that count as bullying an AI?

SHAMEFUL!
This is from today's @financialtimes.com.
On a great day for 🇮🇪 sport, this is not a league table position to be proud of.
Unless you want to ape what's happening in the 🇺🇸.
The Irish government has choices to make.

RIP.ie - most recent death notices | rip.ie
Discover the most recent death notices from Ireland. A reliable source to be informed of the passing of those close to you.
My auntie and her husband check out RIP.ie regularly to find remotely connected acquaintances who have died and attend their funerals for the free lunch. Apparently this is quite a common practice!
