Art can't just be a luxury for the few. That requires a city where artists can actually afford to live and create, and where musicians don't just receive recognition but fair pay.

That's what @local802.bsky.social organizes for and I'm so proud to have their endorsement.

Reminder that there is going to be a huge day of nonviolent protest against Trump this Saturday, June 14 -- "No Kings".

New statement from the organizers in response to Trump federalizing National Guard (and threatening to use active duty troops) against civilians:

As opposed to the other hagiograph... Ahem, I mean BIOgraphies? (Just reading your book now.)

But yes, absolutely I used the subway late excuse so many times until everything I did was in Brooklyn.

As with everything today, I’m aghast at the double-speak, the cruelty, the bullshit. This is not how you respond to student activists.

I would so much rather discuss this than the news. So thanks for the respite.

So no one in my family moved to the burbs. All stayed within like 20 mins of each other and though definitely moved up in terms of class mobility, stayed pretty true to class identity. The X-ers left town, but stayed urban. The one millennial has settled in Philly. We’re demographically weird.

I remember Diner and Tim Men! But now must watch Avalon. Perhaps old Jews yelling at each other about dinner will be a palate cleanser from the news. Or I could just…wait for my family Seder.

I somehow have lived my whole life without ever seeing this. And now... Were they specifically filming my family???

OFFICE
PRESIDENT
HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY
Dear Colleagues,
I hope you are enjoying the holiday weekend.
I write to inform you that on Friday, the U.S. Department of Education issued a letter that threatens to stop providing federal funds to schools, colleges, and universities who violate Title VI, the part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that outlaws discrimination based on race, color, and national origin (among other characteristics as later defined by the courts). The letter goes on to elaborate on what it now considers a violation of Title VI in the education context based on the current administration's view of the Supreme Court's analysis in its 2023 decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, which banned affirmative action. The letter provides a 14-day period for institutions to comply.
At Hofstra, we remain committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every member of the community is valued and supported as an individual. We are carefully reviewing our policies and practices and working with legal counsel to ensure we are in compliance with the law. At present, all current policies and practices remain in force.
Thank you for your forbearance as we continue to address the current legal/political situation as it affects our beloved University. We will keep you informed as we work through these issues.
Sincerely,
Susan

No more business as usual. Donald Trump and Elon Musk are imposing pain on millions of people.

Tonight, we’re taking this fight to the Senate floor.

Russ Vought - author of Project 2025 - is up for a vote, and Democrats are using every second to throw a wrench in their plan.
