A friend's parents had a dog who had a box of things that were dog toys and he was not allowed to chew on things that were not in the box. They knew that the dog understood this perfectly well because he would put the forbidden things in the box of dog toys first and then chew on them.

Pope Leo XIV was seen spinning a basketball on his finger in Saint Peter's Square during a visit from the US exhibition basketball crew, the Harlem Globetrotters. One of the players helped the pontiff with the classic trick in front of a cheering crowd.
Earth and Moon from DSCOVR NASA's Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC) aboard the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite captured this unique view of the Moon as it moved in front of the sunlit side of Earth last month. This view shows the fully illuminated “dark side” of the moon that is never visible from Earth. Ian Regan processed this version of the image to account for the Moon's motion. NASA / NOAA / Ian Regan
I hadn't seen this before. This is pretty remarkable.

Fundraiser for librarian Luanne James, who stood up to her rightwing library board that demanded she remove kids books with any trace of LBGTQ+ characters or content.
"I will not comply."
They sacked her and cops escorted her out.
She's a hero. This banned author just donated.
A diagram explaining the way I was conditioned to understand how love worked, due to how I was raised and early relationships. My actual self is a gray circle, captioned, "inherently flawed and fundamentally unlovable." Coming out of the gray circle are yellow circles captioned, "Things I Do; these require constant effort to perform and maintain in order to earn or be worthy of being loved." To the left are three other circles in blue, green, and red, with red lines labeled "love" coming off of them to the external yellow spheres. It is captioned, "The love they feel is for the acts. Thus, love requires constant effort and maintenance to earn."
A diagram titles, how it actually works. My Actual Self is now a yellow circle, with the caption, "no more flawed than anyone else, and also fundamentally lovable." Things I do are still present as additional yellow circles, but captioned, "other people in my life may enjoy these with me or take no interest in them at all, depending on the person." Other People remain blue, green, and red circles, but the red love lines go directly to My Actual Self. The captain reads, "The love they feel is for me. Simply me."
It's one thing to understand it. It's another to internalize it.
I've been getting a lot of help with both recently. 😌
(Diagrams by me because diagraming & documenting is a critical part of my internalization process.)
I looked at it and thought, “that looks great! I don’t want any!”
Yeah, I did notice the apples in the picture were Granny Smith and thought that was why
Too sweet for me, but sounds like an excellent use of apples and free will for others
I was about to ask if people were inconsolable because they are horrified this exists or because they want one but then I thought about the internet and figured that the answer would be yes
It's Trans Day of Visibility today. If you're trans and are raising money for something (I don't care what it is), reply to this thread and I will boost you.

Hello! Today is THE LAST DAY to file a claim in Bartz v. Anthropic.
GET YOUR MONEY!
Check the works list to see if you are on it here: secure.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com/lookup/
File a claim here: www.anthropiccopyrightsettlement.com/claim-form
I was familiar with the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire before but hadn’t looked it up in detail so I learned a few more horrifying things about the owners today
I also found a webpage/online exhibit called (Un)Known Memories: Enugu Coal, Landscape, and the Afterlife of Extraction and if the person who curated it isn’t your student, they probably want to contact the curator.
The national archives has a branch in Enugu and might have relevant documents there that aren’t in other branches, though they are underfunded and understaffed so if your student is in the UK, I don’t know how helpful it can be without going to Enugu even if they do
This is your reminder that if you are a class member and have NOT yet filed a claim in Anthropic v. Bartz, the AI copyright lawsuit, you have 9 days to do so.

I could have just stopped if the universe was telling me to manifest rest, but it did say to find a third word. Rest more I guess.
Those shrimp are so happy to be on that bowl.
Harriet Taylor Mill officially recognised as co-author of 'On Liberty'! dailynous.com/2026/03/19/o...
mill's dedication: this is a jointly authored work
a century & a half of male editors: mill exaggerated out of a sentimental fondness for his wife
mill's letters: no, really, most of "my" work was partly by her, i really could not be clearer on this
Consecutive news headlines from accuweather.com: record-shattering March scorcher, 70 million to bake in summer like heat dome into weekend and blizzard snarls travel as one midwest city has its biggest snow day since 1889
Global weirding going on *jazz hands*
Considering there was a year that Boston had run through the snow removal budget by February and didn’t know where to move the snow to because it was piled so high and didn’t skip printing the paper, there must be a lot of snow right now
I don’t know who needs to hear Jesse Jackson leading the kids on Sesame Street in this beautiful call-and-response reminding them that every child is somebody, but here it is
I propose to make universal the old policy of the Blackfriars conference at the American Shakespeare Center:
If you do not end your paper on time, you will be forced to exit, pursued by a bear. Literally, a bear will come take your paper from you.
I know that they will always do the cruelest thing and the most racist thing, but the extent to which these particular fuckers will also do the stupidest thing.
Fire up the phones. Make every fucking member of the GOP own this.
Fuck them.

[NEW) Minneapolis is showing us how it's done. Over the past few weeks, I've received questions about how to adapt the Social Change Map for emerging efforts. I put together a short planner that can support folks in:
facilitating meetings
identifying roles
evaluating growth
