@exhaustdata 2 months ago Ten thousand dissertations all called “the American novel since 1945” reduced to a single sentence @chillextremist 3 months ago When I'm in the suburbs for too long I start to think about dying
I can’t take it any more
Seth Dickinson I beg of you, finish a series
A movie that much better grapples with the current political moment is Bugonia imo, although One Battle does have a more timeless quality

First time coming to GDC for the full week and I’m already feeling fried
Fun fact, the Dark Angels (and their primarch) are named after a poem about repressed guilt and sin, as the author was a closeted gay man
What wondrous creatures seagulls are
Devastating
GDC talk from Valve on the state of Steam in 2026. Here are some numbers that demonstrate the size of the platform:
Eating lunch today in the gardens near a dude having a nice picnic with a book and a blanket, then he pulls out a crack pipe lmao
Mark Danielewski’s target audience
This is incredible
FWIW there’s a plugin called Blueprint Assist that takes a lot of the busywork out of node organizing… also I think that writing readable node graphs is as much a skill as writing well formatted code, but too many people don’t take it as seriously sometimes
Just saw that one as well! Loved the bit about using game pillars as a criteria to decide whether or not to cut a feature.
First day of GDC over, lots of great talks today, time to revert to a puddle in my hotel

Jumpscared by gunfire audio while waiting for the BF6 talk, I’m too American for this

Video game screenshot from Quake Brutalist Jam III. An underground level of a sunlit enclosed courtyard. Everything is made of concrete and hanging vines are visible.
The ground level of the same courtyard. A multi-tiered bunker-like structure with angular shapes stands in the middle, above the pit. Soldiers stand guard.
A much bleaker scene; the cavernous interior of some sort of megastructure. Bluish fog wraps around a tiered structure and hints at the forms of distant pipes. No sky is visible.
A substructure, reminiscent of a parking garage, but with unclear purpose. Short flights of stairs connect several levels lit by regularly-spaced overhead flourescent lights, and there are various sizes of blue storage containers in the background.
My map for Quake Brutalist Jam III: The Smell of Sunshine.
