Here in Texas, our voting rights have been abused and disrespected by GOP gerrymandering for most of this millennium. The quotes from this article in the NYT are yet more reasons I'm happy to be a former subscriber to that newspaper.

Couldn’t agree more. This has led to the death of the rule of law here in Texas, where our state Supreme Court has been controlled by one party since 1998. Courts here (and other jurisdictions) have are now so political that the cases and concerns of ordinary people have lost importance.

Are you in the Austin area? We may have seen the same dog in Georgetown TX on Thursday. It looked like a pug or small bulldog. It also wore a helmet with ear holes. Cracked us up

The only qualification for these nominees is that they are test-tube babies raised by the Federalist Society to have no other skills than blind partisanship and no real-life experiences outside the test tube.

That will be great! When we lived in Houston we loved Coltivare. Glad to know this is happening!

‘V V’ symbol and other related letters | Devon Historic Graffiti Survey

I've seen it described as a "Marian" mark, after the Virgin Mary (the X in the crossed Vs having religious significance). This source describes it as common in old church graffiti. devonhistoricgraffiti.org.uk/v-v-symbol-a...

Absolutely agree, as a 67 YO appellate lawyer using AI right now to crunch numbers in a 105-page spreadsheet. The AI’s analysis is lazy and requires close proofing. If I trusted AI my client might lose a winnable appeal. AI is a terrible truth seeker. When I was younger I might not have noticed.

I see no reason for me to follow X. I follow and comment on BlueSky posts for the sake of information and my sanity, but I'm 67 and am not a social media influencer. Others, especially influencers, can do whatever they want to do.

AI is useful for many purposes but must be used carefully and ethically. Caveat emptor.

There are very few exceptions to that fact of appellate practice, unfortunately.

Wow! What an adventure you both have to look forward to sharing

I’m an appellate lawyer and agree this is concerning. I know appellate judges here in Texas who receive briefs that are AI slop and have ordered re-briefing. I hope appellate courts will play a role along with the organized bar. AI threatens zealous advocacy of clients and the interest of justice.
