A screenshot of a Google Maps interface showing Volcán de Fuego in Guatemala. The right side features a top-down satellite view of the volcano's peak. The rugged terrain shows deep, radiating ravines filled with grey volcanic deposits cutting through the surrounding dark green forested slopes. The peak casts a large, dark shadow to the northwest, and a vertical seam is visible down the middle of the map view where two satellite image tiles with slightly different exposures have been stitched together.

Following up on this, I've also added two images of the nearby Kura Test Range.

I heard you can fit some pretty big satellites on top of those

While it's quite a grainy capture, it's a damn cool one.

My Space Review article is about how the intelligence community tracked a Soviet helicopter carrier in the Black Sea based upon its radar emissions. Harry Stranger just found this 1971 photo of a Soviet helicopter carrier in port. thespacereview.com/article/5195/1

The damaged roof of Blue Origin's 2CAT facility can be seen in an UMBRA SAR satellite image taken on 2026-04-11 02:44:16 UTC.

The second picture, from 2026-01-26, shows 2CAT from a different angle and an intact roof more than two months before the incident.

A bit of a different take on the amazing Artemis II launch footage.

Here I stitched clips from the four Solar Array Wing Cameras to make this panoramic video.

This is during the later part of the Core Stage burn until MECO and stage separation, sped up to 10x. 🔭🧪 #Artemis

This image, taken two years ago today, was one of the coolest 'rocket on launch pad' satellite images I've purchased.

Taken at 02:32:07 UTC on April 07, 2024, this image taken by the Pleiades NEO 4 satellite shows Russia's Angara A5 rocket on Pad 1A at Vostochny Cosmodrome.

You're definitely not alone! I'm glad to hear A2 has brought it back for you too

I can see that, but there will also be so much from other companies and agencies that will be ignored or underreported.

I was tempted to try and cover it myself, but I have so much on my plate as it is.

My interest in current day spaceflight plummeted for the last year or so, but Artemis II reignited that in a very emotional way.

This says it all. There was always so much blind worshipping of SpaceX and ignoring other companies as well as NASA. I gave up for a while.

Time to refocus on good stuff

Awesome! It would be neat to overlay these images over the map and have a slider to compare the two. Maybe even having a coastline overlay on top of the images.

My framing was a little off however, a timelapse of the entire time Artemis II was behind the Moon from my part of the world.

I was hoping to go and chill on a nearby hill to just sit and watch the Moon the full time with a nice view but of course Australian summer is deciding to give one last blast this week 🫠

Crew of Artemis II share an emotional moment after naming new crater after a lost loved one
Crew of Artemis II share an emotional moment after naming new crater after a lost loved one YouTube video by CTV News

It's really worth watching the moment when Jeremy Hansen suggests that a crater on the moon - a "bright spot" we'll be able to see from earth - be named Carroll for Carroll Taylor Wiseman, the late wife of commander Reid Wiseman. www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1Cw...
