Ugggh the “let’s buy some razors and travel-size crap I’ll have to abandon again in 72 hours” chore.

Enjoy the withdrawals, kiddos.
I dare you to fit ≥4 days of women’s business attire, in decent shape, plus makeup and haircare products plus workout clothes (including sneakers _or_ decent dress shoes) into a carryon. We can’t all rock t-shirts and sneakers at the conference.
My wife calls the Veredicto weapon “the bonker.”
That is such bullshit, acting as if it’s over at _35_. I’m 43 and I would be worse at this in every possible way if I’d just slammed straight through undergrad to a postdoc: skittish, incurious, submissive in the face of senior investigators who are actually embarrassingly parochial in mindset.
Some days it’s amazing to think any of us managed to take it this far.
I’ve lost countless opportunities to this administration’s dismantling of American science. I genuinely do not know if I’m at the start of a brilliant career or the end of a stunted, mediocre, one. But I hope I’m never as burntout and cynical as some you all act On Here.
I’m no expert, but a robot showing that level of balance and endurance is very cool! I can already imagine there are high-stakes disaster response, humanitarian, and global health use cases.
I tried to dig up some “bad old days” qual research for my MPH students, but everything I found was _so_ bad as to overshadow whatever pinhead methods point I was trying to make.
I’m sure this sort of thing sounds really hard (the OP) when you’re afraid of answering the phone, but the truth of the matter is it is just pathetic.
Deleted a post that was pissing people off and now I regret it because I’m in A Mood.
Clearview AI began as “SmartChekr,” a tool to screen attendees at alt-right rallies.
Palantir is doing cutting edge science on whether its possible for an entire company to have cocaine psychosis
Stunting like Emperor Palpatine as they pull off the equivalent of an ambitious econometrics thesis.
Dr. Long’s is a timely story of unabashedly political science, and a reminder that we can be doing so much more with our labors and expertise than lining our academic CVs. Fascinating tale for anyone who’s unfamiliar with the early days of ACT UP / Treatment Action Group.

I will never not love the environmental storytelling happening in the background of other trans women’s’ selfies.
Saw a professor at my Ivy League uni on his realname account arguing with an anime avi shitposter over some obscure atproto shit. Perfect Bluesky moment.
Exactly. Probability is already poorly taught, or barely taught at all, in my experience. Now it has a rather in-your-face application that could underwrite short-term harm reduction and mathematical literacy in adulthood.
The illest motherfucker since Oedipus.
The only car I ever drove, a handful of times, was a light pickup. They are _so_ much fun, springy and eager like when puppies start to get big, plus you frequently get to be the neighborhood/friend group hero.
These kinds of interactions are the real best reason to wear band (and nerd) shirts.
Seeing people misunderstand the current legal climate for transitioning as being so bad that they may as well not bother is legitimately such an indictment of the state of our information systems as trans people.
This looks excellent, excited to dig in!
Best show so far this year. Stunningly beautiful in its way.
In 2017 I did some inter-agency work on LGBTQ issues for the NYC Health Dept. Common wisdom held that the Dept Homeless Services was, hands down, the worst agency in the city for queer and trans New Yorkers. Marsha’s House was a well-known nightmare. A decade later, here we are.
I stuck around for a few that petered out (plus a tornado or two) and, surprisingly, no headaches.
One of the many things I miss about the Gulf South was that its abrupt “six weeks of grim shit” version of winter never put me through it. But now I’m in New England and the weather is basically rng right now.
