‘I had poked the bear right in the eye’: my fight to renounce my Russian citizenship The long read: When Putin invaded Ukraine, he raised murder to the level of national policy. I felt guilt by association. And I had to act

Over the last few days I received quite an overwhelming number of e-mails in relation to this piece: www.theguardian.com/world/2026/a.... I'll try to answer them all, albeit gradually. The piece is superficially about Russia. But I think it's fundamentally about understanding one's own identity.

“The scale of the nightmare in Gaza and the West Bank is vast. It is her job to somehow absorb and relay it to the rest of the world. That costs her profoundly — more than any American sanctions.”

The US don’t even know who they are speaking to in Iran. They speak to two anonymous voices who don’t identify themselves, and who don’t have decision making authority - everything has to be run past unnamed higher bosses who are also mysterious

A war foretold: how the CIA and MI6 got hold of Putin’s Ukraine plans and why nobody believed them Drawing on more than 100 interviews with senior intelligence officials and other insiders in multiple countries, this exclusive account details how the US and Britain uncovered Vladimir Putin’s plans ...

This is amazing, infuriating and dredges up a lot of resentment I had managed to bury. The evidence was overwhelming and so many people refused to see it.

Maybe it would work, or maybe not yet… my one is similar, we’ve abandoned the buggy completely because he won’t go in it. He usually can’t sit for long, but on the bus for some reason he likes to peacefully watch it all go by. He’s almost two.

My toddler loves simply riding on the bus. Especially a seat with a view. We can point at things. I found it great (and not too tiring) rainy day activity: just go on the bus, pop into a shop, and then come back again.

This is an excellent overview of some of what was in the latest Epstein files.

I’ve been thinking all week of a historical comparison to these files - maybe the pentagon papers - but these files are so much more banality of evil, conversations move from finance to children to lols

He had people all over the world scouting for victims for him, sharing photos and body measurements.
There are extremely disturbing allegations in there, including about abuse of children as young as five.
There was no shortage of victims coming forward

Epstein files: Key revelations and some stories you may have missed Cache of three million files is thick with famous names and lurid details

Some thoughts from trawling the Epstein files.
Epstein was a nobody. It’s mysterious where he got his money and billionaire lifestyle.
It’s possible he collected compromising material for extortion.
A major question is whether he worked with intelligence agencies

‘It’s surreal’: US sanctions lock International Criminal Court judge out of daily life Canadian judge Kimberly Prost is unable to use credit cards, transfer money or book everyday services in what she calls an attack on the independence of the judiciary

“Prost [an ICC judge] had been added to the United States’ sanctions list, because in 2020 she ruled to authorise an investigation into possible atrocities in Afghanistan, including by US troops.”
