we finally have a new who’s who for Harper Children’s editorial. let me know if your team hasn’t yet received a copy!
2pm on the Friday before Christmas. was supposed to be on a plane home to visit family, but had to change plans—and just closed one of the biggest deals of my career. looking forward to tomorrow, when I’ll meet the love of my life who owns a Christmas cupcake bookstore, as Hallmark intended.
and if you want to learn more about self-publishing (if you aren’t one of the biggest pop stars on the planet), Reedsy has a great article on it: blog.reedsy.com/guide/how-to...
if you’re curious about what the Eras book might mean for publishing, @svershbow.bsky.social’s article makes for great reading: www.esquire.com/entertainmen...
each type of publishing comes with its pros and cons, but as someone who has devoted her life to editing, I think it’s always worth this extra step to make sure your book is the best it can be!
but just because you choose not to work with a publishing house doesn’t mean you can’t work with editors. developmental editors, copyeditors, and proofreaders can help ensure the highest level of polish and are an integral step of the publishing process.
while some of these “errors” may be intentional preferences (I have definitely stetted many commas in my day), some, like misplaced modifiers, stacks, and printing in the gutter, are things an editor would likely query, if not outright suggest fixing.
lately fans have been complaining about the quality of the Eras Tour book, claiming it didn’t feel “edited.”

I’m an editor not an agent so way fewer! I’d say I average about 10 a month. You can see realtime numbers here: www.saraschonfeldbooks.com/submission-g...

Surprise me!
