The boys who worship greece and rome as Western Glory gloss over these being fundamentally slaver states.

They would have you think all ancient societies were, but they were't. Cyrus the great for example, banned slavery in Persia.

They'll conflate civic conscription with enslavement which its not

NYC Councilman Chi Ossé arrested while protesting woman’s eviction in Brooklyn BEDFORD STUYVESANT, Brooklyn (PIX11) — Council Member Chi Ossé, who represents District 36, was arrested in Brooklyn on Wednesday morning, video posted by his office to social media shows. Th…

Outrageous. @chiosse.bsky.social was protecting one of his neighbors from eviction, as a result of deed theft — a plague in Central Brooklyn right now. There was no reason for NYPD officers to roughly throw him to the ground. It sure doesn’t make anyone safer. Release him now.

Everyone who became rich, powerful, and culturally dominant in the last decade savaging this country

They’ll describe how it felt to them, how terrible it was for them, and ask for understanding as they heal

# Artbox is great! It's pictionary but you're restricted to four random shapes (must use all of them, no more than 4). Some people are stuck with trying to draw a globe with four rectangles

Arguing about Ronald Reagan with people whose entire careers, areas of expertise, and intellectual authority are based on Reagan's time in office and a view that the policies he implemented are wholly good doesn't seem like a really great use of anyone's time.

"sex doesn't belong in YA books"

Listen, I learned more about birth control, menstruation, and how to get and give consent to different acts from Tamora Pierce books than I did from my school. There's a huge difference between smut and showing teens what healthy sexuality is.

Yeah, some of your fellow Democrats have called Israel’s actions in Gaza genocide. Do you agree with that?

That’s becoming one of those new litmus tests that we said we would never do as a party again. It’s trying to throw out a word and, “Are you going to raise your hand or are you not going to?” I understand that Israel was hit with a terrorist attack the likes of which it had never seen and it has been through a lot and that it deserves the right to defend itself and to eradicate that terrorist organization. I believe that it could have been done without a lot of the suffering, but I put a lot of that blame also on Donald Trump. If he’d said we are coming in and we are bringing food and aid and you are going to make sure that we’re safe, it would’ve happened.

Ezra Klein article on AI: My experience of Anthropic’s Claude in recent months is that I’ll drop in a stub of a thought and immediately receive paragraphs of often elegant writing turning that intuition into something that looks, superficially, like a fully realized idea. It’s my impulse, but it has been recast and extended into something far more coherent. With each passing month, I have to expend more energy to recognize whether it’s fundamentally wrong or hollow.

If you struggle sometimes with self-doubt, I unironically recommend following and reading people like Ezra Klein and Matty Yglesias. They’re wrong on almost every consequential issue nearly 100% of the time. It’s like an anti-compass that gets you back pointing due North.

Today - JDL member Alexander Heifler planned to flee to Israel following the assassination attempt on Nerdeen Kiswani

New: Wikipedia has officially banned AI-generated content. After months of heated debate and previous attempts to restrict the use of LLMs, volunteer editors accepted a new policy that prohibits using them to create articles for the online encyclopedia

I just don't GET people who can't let stuff go. Sean Connery was my ultimate favourite actor growing up and then I found out he did a Barbara Walters interview where he talked about the importance of hitting his wife to keep her in line and I never watched anything with him again. It's not hard

Nonverbal 5-year-old who met Ms. Rachel over Zoom is released from ICE detention His parents, asylum-seekers from Colombia, said their son’s physical and emotional health deteriorated during the weeks they were held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center in South Texas.

the amount of good ms. rachel puts out into the world is immeasurable. she is so much closer to something divine than many men who claim to be holy.

“I am political,” Ms. Rachel told me of her new effort to free kids from ICE detention.

“It’s political to believe that children are worthy of love … and that our care shouldn’t stop at what we look like, our family, at our religion, at a border. Mr. Rogers was very political.”

One of the big reasons I'm so down on AI is because I remember a time when tech companies provided products and services that were useful.

Gmail was great! Now Google is using The Robot That Answers Questions Wrong to mangle news headlines. No one needed this. No one wants it. It's shit.

As a Gen Xer, I can tell you boomers and even my own generation comparing their 20s to today’s 20-30 year-olds needs to stop. I paid $600 for a West Hollywood apartment at 23. Today it’s $3500. Burgers weren’t $20, they were $6 to $8 in a nice restaurant. Life is not comparable.
